Reception thoroughly enjoyed our pyjama movie day on Wednesday this week!
After helping to make our movie snacks we settled down to watch the Grinch, we enjoyed our snacks and hot chocolate and snuggled with our friends under the cosy blankets.
The children (and staff) have enjoyed a lovely festive day!
This week reception took park in a drumming workshop with Mr Bird. They played different instruments and created a beat together. We had lots of fun!
This week in Reception we have been learning about lists. We began by reading the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and even made our own soup! We then made a list of the ingredients that we used, remembering to put each ingredient on a new line and using our phonic knowledge to hear the sounds that we needed to write. So next time we’re feeling hungry, we’ll know what to put in our soup!
This week Reception had a Learning Challenge afternoon. It was inspired by the story ‘Leaf Man’ and focused around using natural resources to make art.
The children took part in activities such as creating leaf pictures, dyeing cloth using berries, leaf rubbing and making transient art using things they found outside like sticks, leaves and stones. The children were able to access as many of the activities as they wanted and then we all met back together to share our work and discuss what we had done.
Here are a small group of children dyeing cloth using berries!
This week in Maths in Class 1, we have been looking at numbers to 5. We have been forming numbers and representing them using a range of objects. We have been linking this all to NumberBlocks. The children have been building the number block cartoons to match the picture of them and then counting them to make sure they are correct. Here’s a picture of the activity and a picture of our display we have been using to support our maths work.
This week in class 2 we have been celebrating ‘Pete the Cat’s’ birthday, he turned 5 this week!
We have been recognising numerals to five and counting out a specific number of items. The children have loved making play dough cakes for Pete.
This half term in Reception our focus text is ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.
So far the children have listened to the story and practised retelling it, ordered pictures showing the story events and drawn their favourite part. Over the coming weeks they will be identifying and describing the characters and settings. They are also learning the key features of texts, such as title, author, text and illustration.
We have been enjoying the last of the warm weather in our garden recently. We are learning how to share resources and follow the rules. But most importantly, we have been making tonnes of new friends!
