School day for all children begins 8:30am and ends at 3:15pm. This amounts to 32.5 hours per week.
Within our school day we stick to the same timetable across the school, with some slight deviations depending on the key stage.
A typical day at West Boldon:
| 8:30am | School day begins | |
| Children arrive in school and teachers greet them at the gate. During registration children in KS2 complete some Core Maths working on arithmetic, mental strategies and times tables facts. | ||
| 9:00am | Whole school assembly | |
| Mondays and Fridays we celebrate Star of the Week and House points. Tuesdays we break into smaller groups to discuss British Values. Our teachers lead Wednesday assemblies to discuss specific subject areas, and Thursdays are reserved for class assemblies. | ||
| 9:15am | Spelling and Phonics | |
| Children in KS1 attend a RWI phonics session, and children in Year 2 and KS2 attend a RWI spelling session. KS2 children also complete Guided Reading in this session
| 10:00am | Maths | |
| Children return to regular classes for a Maths lesson. As a school we follow the Power Maths scheme of learning which ensures children have a good grasp on concrete, pictorial and abstract elements of mathematics. This scheme uses a mastery approach.
| 11:00am | Break time
| 11:15am | Literacy | |
| These lessons are focussed on a class text, teaching a specific type of composition, with skills such as spelling, punctuation and grammar taught throughout the unit of work. | ||
| 12:15pm | Lunchtime
| 1:15pm | Afternoon begins | |
| Activities in the afternoon cover a variety of non-core subjects. History, Geography, Science, Computing, Art and DT are all taught using a thematic approach following the Dimensions Learning Means the World curriculum. French (KS2 only), PSHE and PE are taught as standalone subjects. Each class also has a weekly hall slot to complete Commando Joe’s missions. Every class stops at 3pm to enjoy a story together before heading home.
| 3:15pm | Home time |
Please note: timetable deviations depend on each Key Stage. Early Years and Key Stage 1 children complete a lot of their activities within continuous provision, and our ARC classes follow a more relaxed version of the above.
