Two years ago, we launched our brand-new Smart School Council. We wanted to change the way in which our school council operates so that ALL children in school have a voice.

At West Boldon Primary School we believe it is really important that we consult with our pupils and consider their opinions, ideas and thoughts, to help us to evaluate what the children like about our school and what we can do to make it even better for them.

Here is a brief overview of what it looks like:

The ‘Communication Team’ were selected following an application process.  This team is made up of pupils from across Key Stage 1 and 2 and they each have a key role in helping to ensure that the council runs smoothly.  Part of their role is to create weekly class meetings which enable us to capture the voice of every pupil across school by asking a key question and having a respectful debate.  Finally, we have our action teams.  Any child in school can form an action team for any reason.  They bring their ideas to the communication team and with the support of a nominated adult, they run their project in order to help to improve our school community.

During each meeting, Team Communicators will add key messages and updates to keep our school community informed. We also have a ‘progress board’ in school which will help us to keep track of all of our action teams and celebrate our successes.
