Sketching leaves

23rd June 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 4 are learning how to represent nature in our artwork this term.

Today we explored sketching.
The children worked so hard, looking at the shapes, patterns, colour and shadow in the items we had collected on a walk around school.
I am sure you will agree the finished pieces are AMAZING!

Hot and cold colours

8th December 2020Miss K. Wilkinson
In Art, Year 1 have been looking at colours, particularly hot and cold colours.
We have created a colour wheel and labeled which colours are ‘hot’ and which are ‘cold’.
We have also made some handprints with paint that show we understand how we can mix primary colours together to make new secondary colours, purple, green and orange!

African Art

26th November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson
This half term in Year 2, the children are exploring the rich, vibrant colours and patterns associated with African Art. They will study art throughout native tribes and make and decorate masks and water jars as well as recreate the beautiful African landscapes at sunset.
This week, we are paying close attention to the Maasai culture and their amazing homemade jewellery. Look how intricate  our pattern making is as we build our own collection of African headbands, bracelets and necklaces.

By studying other artists’ work, can you capture your own drawing of an animal?

22nd October 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

For art this term, Year 6 have been looking at famous artists and answering the question ‘By studying other artists’ work, can you capture your own drawing of an animal?’ Mrs Lauderdale and Mrs Cairns have been extremely impressed with their pupils artistic skills and enthusiasm. Some excellent work has been produced. We have created in the style of Mondrian, Monet and Picasso. We hope you love our art!

Wassily Kandinsky

20th October 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 4 have been learning about the Russian artist who was thought to be the first abstract painter.

We have looked at his art and considered the techniques he used.

We then created our own versions of a Kandinsky piece.

Finally, we started to look at the different techniques he used using oil pastels.

How can we use nature to make Art?

12th October 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

This week Reception had a Learning Challenge afternoon. It was inspired by the story ‘Leaf Man’ and focused around using natural resources to make art.

The children took part in activities such as creating leaf pictures, dyeing cloth using berries, leaf rubbing and making transient art using things they found outside like sticks, leaves and stones. The children were able to access as many of the activities as they wanted and then we all met back together to share our work and discuss what we had done.

Here are a small group of children dyeing cloth using berries!

Inspired by Frozen

7th February 2020R Smith

Lots of the children have been excited by the new Frozen film.  We explored some pictures from the film and from real life frozen landscapes to investigate ‘cold’, ‘winter’, ‘frozen’ colours.

The children really impressed us at what they noticed, especially when they started to notice the shades of colours in the pictures.

We used our new knowledge to create our own large scale ‘frozen’ process art.

We worked in steps. building up the layers, colours, shade and embellishments.  The children worked collaboratively to produce their art work, that would hang proudly in any art gallery.
