Dragons of the Dark Woods

29th April 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 4 finished their Literacy topic on “Dragons of the Dark Woods” by creating their own dragons eyes.

They learnt about how texture is created in images and sculptures and then had a go at sketching pictures of dragons eyes. They then designed their own dragons eyes before practising clay skills. They learnt how to make spirals, flowers and leaves etc and then followed their designs to make intricate patterns. Once dry, they painted them with metallic acrylic paints.

They look absolutely amazing and the children are so proud!

They then produced some amazing fact files about their own dragons that they created using lots of features such as subheadings, varied sentence openers and scientific words! They displayed them proudly alongside their dragons eyes.

African Lion King masks!

7th February 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 finished off their Africa topic with a week of art. In their topic they have learned all about the Big Five animals, what life is like in Africa, including the landscape, the traditions and the wildlife.

They then designed and created masks inspired by the film The Lion King. The designed their masks on paper first, before drawing their design and cutting out cardboard to create the manes. They then papier-mached the outside to harden it up.

Once the papier-mache was dry, they primed their masks by coating it in white paint, before painting it with their planned colours.

Year 4 have been learning all American slavery in their topic Cry Freedom.

We have studied the way the slaves were treated and how they became slaves. This week we began to look at their journey to freedom.

We had a lovely art lesson looking at sketching symbols of freedom. The children chose up to 3 symbols to represent freedom such as birds flying, chains breaking and following the constellations.

Here are some examples of our work:

Inuit Artwork

24th January 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

As part of our Come fly with me ..to the Arctic topic we have found out about some Inuit art.

There are many huge structures across the very north of Canada called Inukshuk (pronounced I-nook-shook). These structures are built from huge rocks and look a little like people.

These landmarks were used to mark special places, as sign posts and to mark good hunting or fishing spots.

The children used wooden blocks to create their own inukshuk working with a partner to share and develop ideas.
