Bringing Easter to life- Palm Branches & Path of Praise!

5th May 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Our Year 3s stepped back in time for an immersive RE workshop: Hosanna: The Entry to Jerusalem.

To kick off our journey toward Easter, we explored the sights and sounds of the very first Palm Sunday. The classroom was buzzing as we learned about the significance of Jesus entering Jerusalem and why this story is a cornerstone of Christian celebration.

What we explored:

The King on a Donkey: We discussed why Jesus chose a humble donkey instead of a grand horse, and what that tells us about his message of peace.

Shouts of “Hosanna!”: We learned that this word is both a shout of praise and a plea for help.

The Symbolism of Palms: Students looked at palm branches representing the “red carpet” welcome given to Jesus.

It was wonderful to see the children engage with themes of welcome, celebration, and leadership.

Step Back in Time with Classes 5 & 6!

5th May 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Our Year 1 and 2 pupils had an incredible time this week diving into History and RE during our Venerable Bede Workshop! It was a day filled with imagination, monastic robes, and some very interesting hairstyles.

Highlights from the Day:
Life Before the Monastery: Some of our children stepped into the shoes of young Anglo-Saxons. They explored what life was like for Bede before the age of seven, imagining his world before he began his journey at the monastery.
Monastic Makeovers: Others took on a more solemn role, dressing up as monks in their traditional habits and cowls.
Creative Crafts: The children got hands-on by making their very own miniature monks, complete with authentic outfits and—the star of the show—the iconic tonsure hairdos!

We are so proud of how Classes 5 and 6 engaged with our local history ans current RE topic. The level of curiosity and creativity was truly inspiring!

What’s Next?
The excitement isn’t over yet! We can’t wait for Class 7 to have their turn at this exciting workshop next week. Get ready to travel back to the 7th century!

Bringing Easter to Life!

5th May 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Our Year 6 students took a deep dive into the heart of the Christian faith with our latest RE workshop: The Crucifixion and Resurrection with an RE Storyteller.

Moving beyond the chocolate eggs, our pupils explored the profound significance of the Easter story. Through interactive storytelling, we tackled the big questions:

Good Friday: Why do Christians call such a somber day “Good”? We explored the themes of sacrifice, forgiveness, and the ultimate act of love.

Easter Day: From sorrow to celebration! We discussed the concept of hope and the belief in new life that defines this cornerstone of Christianity.

It was an incredible session filled with thoughtful insights and a deeper understanding of why these days hold such immense importance for Christians around the world.

A huge well done to Year 6 for their curiosity and empathy!

Determination in the Jungle: Year 4’s Latest Mission

19th March 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

This week in Year 4 the children completed another Commando Joes session. The children continued their learning about the adventurer Kira Salak. This week’s mission challenged them to work in teams to transport their documents, water and a gorilla safely across the border into Kenya, protecting them from poachers. The children had to show resilience, communicate silently, and guide their whole team across the course — even with one member blindfolded. They worked brilliantly and rose to the challenge with determination and teamwork.

Paired Reading

8th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

At West Boldon Primary, we believe that reading is the most important thing we can encourage our children to do — it’s the key to learning, imagination, and success!

Every day at 3 p.m., our classrooms come alive with story time, as pupils and teachers share their love of books together. But Tuesdays are extra special…

Each Tuesday, we take part in paired reading, where children from different year groups come together to share their favourite books. Older pupils read to younger ones, chat about their stories, and inspire one another to discover new adventures through reading.

It’s a wonderful way to foster a love of reading across the whole school and build friendships between year groups.

We absolutely love a Tuesday at West Boldon!

Introducing Our New OPAL Ambassadors!

22nd September 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

This morning in assembly, we were very excited to announce our brand-new OPAL Ambassadors for the year! One child has been chosen from each class in Years 2 to 6, as well as from ARC 2, to take on this very special role.

Our OPAL Ambassadors will soon be proudly wearing their yellow caps and badges, making them easy to spot on the playground. Their job is an important one – they will:

  • Lead and join in with playground games

  • Make sure that everyone feels included in play

  • Be a friendly, approachable face for younger children who might need a helping hand

We are incredibly proud of all of the children chosen to take on this responsibility. Being an OPAL Ambassador means showing kindness, leadership, and teamwork – qualities we value highly here at West Boldon.

We can’t wait to see our Ambassadors in action, helping to make our playtimes even happier, more fun, and inclusive for everyone.

Well done to all of our new OPAL Ambassadors!

Colour Run 2025

18th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

We keep saying we do things a bit differently here at West Boldon… and today proved it more than ever!

Who needs a traditional sports day when you can have a full-on, laughter-filled, joy-packed COLOUR RUN instead?

This was our very first attempt at something like this – and WOW, what a success! The atmosphere was electric, the smiles were endless, and we’re still not sure whether the children, staff, or parents had more fun. Some pupils even snuck through the course three or four times because they were having that much fun!

A huge, huge thank you to all of our amazing staff who organised the day and made it so special. It’s safe to say this was one of the best days of the year at West Boldon Primary.

We hope everyone’s managing to get the paint out – although those colourful memories might just stick around a little longer.

Staff BBQ Celebration

18th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Today we enjoyed an amazing staff barbecue at lunchtime – a small thank you for the huge amount of hard work every single member of our team puts in throughout the year. The sun even made a perfect appearance right on time!

At West Boldon Primary, we’re incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated and caring team of staff who go above and beyond every day to support, nurture, and inspire our children. Their commitment doesn’t go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for all they do.

Thank you, Team West Boldon – you’re the heart of our school!

Gold Award Success!

18th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that West Boldon Primary has once again achieved the Gold Standard for PE Achievement!

This award is a testament to the tireless work of our amazing PE Lead, Mr Cairns, the enthusiasm of every single child in school, and the dedication of our brilliant teachers and external coaches who make PE an integral part of our curriculum all year round.

At West Boldon, we believe in developing the whole child — not just exam scores, but confidence, teamwork, fitness and wellbeing too.

What a fantastic Friday morning at West Boldon Primary!

We kicked things off with our usual Star of the Week Golden Coin Assembly —always a highlight as we celebrate our brilliant pupils and their amazing achievements!

Then it was time for Transition Morning, where children met their new teachers and began getting excited for the year ahead.

A big warm welcome as well to all the new parents and families who joined us this morning—we loved having you in school and can’t wait to see your children start their journey with us in September!
