It was truly special to see our older pupils guiding, encouraging, and inspiring their younger peers, building confidence and a love for books along the way. From adventurous stories to fun picture books, every page turned was a step towards developing lifelong reading skills!

World Book Day 2025

17th March 2025Fiona Goodwin
West Boldon Primary School was transformed into a world of imagination and adventure as children and staff celebrated an unforgettable World Book Day. The school was filled with excitement as pupils arrived dressed as their favourite book characters, bringing stories to life in a truly magical way.
From classic fairy tale heroes to modern literary favourites, the creativity on display was nothing short of spectacular. Throughout the day, children took part in a variety of activities designed to inspire a love of reading, including storytelling sessions, book-themed games, and even a special parade to showcase their wonderful costumes.
Deputy Head Stephen McCormack praised the children for their enthusiasm and efforts, saying: “It has been amazing to see the children embrace World Book Day with such excitement. Their costumes were fantastic, and it’s brilliant to see how much they love reading. Reading is so important for children’s development, and events like this help to nurture a lifelong love of books. Supporting something that encourages reading is absolutely vital.”
The school’s commitment to fostering a love of literature was evident throughout the day, with teachers sharing their favourite stories and children discussing the books that inspire them the most.
West Boldon Primary’s World Book Day was a huge success, leaving pupils eager to continue their reading adventures beyond the classroom.

Sunflower Seed Planting in Year 3

17th March 2025Fiona Goodwin
Year 3 had lots of fun making pots out of newspaper before planting sunflower seeds. Now, we’ll nurture them in class before replanting them around our school to brighten up our surroundings!
A huge thank you to West Boldon Lodge for an amazing eco-friendly activity!

ARC chefs in the making!

17th March 2025Fiona Goodwin
Last week, The Arc had an amazing time using our fantastic new cooking unit for the very first time! Equipped with everything we needed, we got stuck in and cooked up a storm.
We started simple with some delicious pitta bread pizzas, learning all about cooking hygiene, safety, and—most importantly—getting creative with our toppings! With a little adult help at the oven, we made sure our pizzas were just right (no burnt edges here!) before tucking in and enjoying every bite.
A huge well done to our budding chefs—we can’t wait for our next cooking adventure!
