Today Year 4 have been focusing on using practical equipment to extend their maths knowledge. They built numbers using counters, base 10 and took part in a 4 counter challenge!
On Tuesday 21st September, all children from Years 1-6 came to school in their sports clothes to recognise National Fitness Day. We were especially lucky to have an excellent personal trainer volunteer their time to come in and compete a short session with every year group.
During their PT session, the children had to rotate around 4 different exercise stations around the hall where they had to complete different exercises such as star jumps, sit ups, ladder runs and hurdles – all activities designed to get the blood pumping!
Take a look at the fun we had!

As part of Year 1’s topic ‘Happily Ever After’ they invited Chris Bostock in to tell the children some tales. They all had a fantastic time listening to and joining in with the stories. The children loved the visit so much that the Explorers and Pathfinders 5 & 6 joined in the fun too.

Year 1 have been making bird feeders as part of following instructions and getting ready to think of our own instructions. They then took the bird feeders down to the Secret Garden for their feathered friends!
In Year 3 this week we began our brand new Dimensions topic – That’s All Folks!
It is a history based topic with elements of computing as it’s all about early film and animation! The children are thoroughly enjoying it so far as this week we learned how to make flip books, zoetropes AND stop motion animations.
See below for some of our fabulous examples!

Today Year 4 started their new Dimensions topic all about Technology and the internet. They talked about how humans ‘stay connected’ and they were amazed when they had to create a timeline of technology and transport.
The teachers and children were shocked at how old some things were and the children couldn’t believe that the World Wide Web is only 30 years old!

Year 1 really enjoyed their first Commando Joe lesson of the year. This week the children had to transport the “apples” across the bridge to Little Red Riding Hoods grandmas basket. The children huddled up to share ideas with their team and showed super team work and resilience. 🍎

Class 6 have had a fab afternoon completing their first Commando Joe mission of the Autumn Term! 🤩
This is part of their Pocahontas unit and was a great activity to get them started. In teams, we each had to protect our ‘babies’ in our Native American tribe from the English. As Native American mothers, team leaders had to make a sling to carry their babies hands free and lead their team to safety across the treacherous forest. They had to navigate over slippery stepping stones, cross bubbling brooks, trawl under leafy terrain, as well as avoiding any dangerous wildlife.
What an adventure they had! 🧳

Year 3 took part in their first mission to the Amazon this week with Commando Joe. This term they are learning about Ed Stafford and how he walked the length of the Amazon River over two years. They will have to complete tasks each week which require them to show the same skills Ed will have used when he was on his journey.
