Terrific Targets!

11th October 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

In Class 11, we have been thinking about our personal targets for the rest of the Autumn term, as well as discussing our targets with Mr Wilson for Numeracy and Literacy.

Here is an example of what we have been thinking about and the types of targets we have been set. All our targets are SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-based) and are agreed with the teacher so that we know what we are working towards.

Ask your child about their targets!

Year 5 Autumn 1 Focus Text

2nd October 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

This half term, Year 5 will be reading ‘Journey to Jo’burg’ by Beverley Naidoo, which tells the story of South African siblings Naledi and Tiro and their fight to save their baby sister. Bravely, alone, they set off on a journey to find their mother, who they hope will be able to help. It isn’t until they reach her in the city of Johannesburg that they come to understand the dangers of their country, and the painful struggle for freedom and dignity that is taking place all around them.

While reading this book, children will be completing a number of independent writing pieces. To begin with, children will write a character description about one of the book’s main characters. They will then take upon the role of Naledi and will write a letter to Mma (Naledi’s mother) before finishing the half term by writing a diary entry based upon the events of Naledi and Tiro’s journey across South Africa.

Orienteering

7th February 2020R Smith
Orienteering instructor visited Year 5 and led a number of activities. The children looked at a map of the school and identified the different part of the school shown E.g. their own classroom, the hall etc. Children then completed a treasure hunt using the map. Children were not allowed to run and were instructed to stay with their group at all times so teamwork and communication skills were required. Children managed this very well.
