Learning Challenge – Passover

The children are learning about different religions and how people show care as they understand different religions and have respect for one another.

In our Learning Challenge this term we will be learning the difference between Passover and Lent.

Today we have been learning about Passover which is a Jewish celebration.

The children enjoyed Mazot and juice (wine).

Year 6 began our Pudsey day with joining in with the live Children in Need Video, Joe Wicks Big Morning Move! During the day we have discussed the charity and talked about the different ways we are empathetic to the cause

 

Learning Challenge: Why is the heart the most important pump we own?

For our Science topic this term, Year 6 have been answering the question ‘Why is the heart the most important pump we own?’ During this topic, we have identified and named the parts of the circulatory system and explained how the heart pumps blood around the body. In groups, we planned and carried out an investigation into the effects exercise has on heart rate and used scientific explanations to show what is happening physiologically within our bodies during exercise and reasoned the changes that lifestyle can cause to our bodies. We recognised the impact drugs and lifestyle had to our bodies. Finally,  we described the ways nutrients are transported within our bodies and conducted an experiment to show the importance of saliva to begin the digestive process. Could you eat 3 large, dry crackers in 1 minute?
Our favourite aspect of this topic was using the Virtuali-tee t-shirt to digitally show the functions within the human body!

At the Discovery Museum

Year 3 enjoyed a fabulous day at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle today, learning all about the science behind superheroes. We travelled on the metro which meant we had to be really sensible to keep ourselves safe. We then had some time to explore the rest of the museum ourselves and found lots of interesting artefacts and exhibits. On the way back we even had time to stop off at the park for a quick play time

Operation Encompass

On Wednesday 16th October, we had a visit from PC Kerry Leask from the Operation Encompass team. She talked to us about friendships and relationships. We discussed what qualities we look for in a friend, how our friends help us in difficult situations and how we can be a good friend to others.

Halloween Disco

The children had a great time at our Infant and Junior Halloween Discos.  There were some fantastically scary costumes!

Focus Text – Coming Home

This half term Year 2 are reading the story ‘Coming Home’ by Michael Morpurgo. It is an exciting adventure story about a brave little robin’s long journey home battling through storms, oceans and terrifying hawk attacks. During the half term we will be writing non chronological reports about robins, diary writing from different characters perspectives and retelling scenes using exciting verbs. In line with Talk for Writing, we will be retelling the story using actions and phrases before innovating the story and changing different elements to create our own narrative.

My Dad’s a Birdman

We have been reading the book – My Dad’s a Birdman. In the story Auntie Doreen’s favourite food is dumplings, she is forever making them, singing about them and eating them in the story. We have written our own descriptions of our favourite meals. Here are two examples.
