Year 1/2 Visit Washington Wetland Centre

24th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 1 and Year 2 pupils enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Washington Wetland Centre, where they explored a range of wetland habitats and discovered the wildlife that lives there. The children loved observing birds up close, learning about different animals, and exploring the natural environment through hands-on activities.

During the visit, pupils developed their understanding of habitats, food chains and how wetlands help protect wildlife. They asked thoughtful questions, shared their observations, and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day. A highlight for many was spotting different birds and exploring the ponds and nature trails.

The trip supported our classroom learning and gave the children a valuable opportunity to learn outside, building curiosity and respect for the natural world. The children were excellent ambassadors for our school, demonstrating great behaviour and teamwork. We would like to thank the staff at WWT!

Year 3 become ANIMATORS!

22nd October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 3 had a very exciting visitor today as part of their ELE for their Dimensions topic “That’s All Folks!” Mr. Robert from the OpenZone joined us to teach the children how to create their very own stop-motion animations using Stikbot and iMovie.

The pupils experimented with their characters, carefully moving and photographing them to bring their stories to life. They even tried out green screen (or blue screen!) techniques — using our classroom chairs as creative props!

Once their animations were complete, they imported them into iMovie, adding titles, photos, and soundtracks before exporting their finished films to share with their classmates.

The teamwork, creativity, and enthusiasm on display were fantastic — well done, Year 3!
A huge thank you to Mr. Robert for an inspiring and imaginative day.

Commando Joe’s – Year 5 Space Mission

22nd October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 5 had an out-of-this-world Commando Joe’s session today! The children suited up for an exciting space walk challenge, using top-notch teamwork and communication skills to collect precious lunar rock samples.

Working in pairs, they showed amazing perseverance, determination, and stellar cooperation to complete their mission successfully.

Well done, Year 5 – you truly reached for the stars!

KS2 Halloween Disco

22nd October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Last night it was the turn of our Key Stage 2 children to enjoy their Halloween Disco — and what a night it was!

The children really went all out with their costumes and looked unbelievably good! There was plenty of dancing, a few fun games, and of course, some tasty hot dogs and crisps to keep the energy up!

We hope everyone had a fang-tastic evening — it’s certainly got us all in the mood for Halloween!

Spooky joke of the night:
Why didn’t the skeleton go to the party?
Because he had no body to go with!

KS1 Halloween Disco

21st October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

What a spooktacular evening at West Boldon Primary!

Last night we enjoyed our very first Halloween Disco for our Reception and Key Stage 1 children — and wow, they all looked amazing in their costumes!

A huge thank you to one of our wonderful parents for providing so many fantastic decorations — the hall looked like a truly spooky, scary place!

The children had an absolute blast, and it was the perfect way to start the Halloween season!

Teamwork and Communication in Class 10!

15th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Some outstanding teamwork and communication this week in our Commando Joe session.

We are currently on working through missions inspired by “Levison Wood” and this week we have been stranded in the Amazon rainforest without shelter, food, or water.

While we waited to be rescued we had to “make camp” and this week needed to find water to sustain us.

The children were given basic tools to transport water from the watering hole to their team water tank.

After some careful planning, discussion and problem solving, the children were able to come up with agreed plans. One key take away from this lesson was clear communication – with few agreed words – to help everyone know what was happening.

Well done Year 4!

Active Maths in Year 5!

13th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Our Year 5 students took their maths lesson outdoors today!

They completed mental math addition and subtraction circuits — combining learning with movement and teamwork.

Everyone loved the active, hands-on learning experience and the refreshing break in routine!

That’s All Folks!

13th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Arc 2 have been having so much fun with their new topic all about animation! This week in DT, we brought our learning to life by making our very own animated lever puppets!

First, we practised our skills by creating paper versions and learning how to make moving joints using split pins.

Then came the exciting part — designing and building our very own wooden extendable puppets! We thought carefully about colours, patterns, and character design, before painting them beautifully to match our plans.

The results were fantastic — a real showcase of creativity, teamwork and imagination!

Celebration Assembly 10th Oct 2025

13th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson
What an amazing end to our week!
On Friday, we celebrated our Golden Coin Star of the Week Assembly, and it was wonderful to hear how our children are continuing to meet our Gold Standards in both behaviour and work.
We’re so proud of each and every one of them — you should be too!
A special mention also goes to some of our Year 5 children, who received certificates for taking part in last week’s rugby tournament — well done, team!
