Teamwork and Triumph for ARC2 at Sunderland Bowl

8th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

What a morning for Arc 2!

Arc 2 had a fantastic time at Sunderland Bowl today, taking part in an inter-school bowling competition. Every single one of them gave it their all — showing brilliant teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout!

Their hard work paid off with a first-place finish and some very happy faces as they proudly received their gold medals!

Well done, Arc 2 — we’re all so proud of you!

Paired Reading

8th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

At West Boldon Primary, we believe that reading is the most important thing we can encourage our children to do — it’s the key to learning, imagination, and success!

Every day at 3 p.m., our classrooms come alive with story time, as pupils and teachers share their love of books together. But Tuesdays are extra special…

Each Tuesday, we take part in paired reading, where children from different year groups come together to share their favourite books. Older pupils read to younger ones, chat about their stories, and inspire one another to discover new adventures through reading.

It’s a wonderful way to foster a love of reading across the whole school and build friendships between year groups.

We absolutely love a Tuesday at West Boldon!

Harvest Donations – What a Result!

5th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

A huge thank you to our wonderfully kind families for their generosity this Harvest. We think this might be the biggest collection we’ve ever had — with groceries, tins, cereals and more, all ready to be shared with our local community over the coming weeks.

Our brilliant Team Communicators had a wonderful time sorting through all of the donations and creating a beautiful Harvest Festival table.

The children also loved celebrating with their non-uniform day today!

Physical Friday!

5th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Physical Friday is here!

This term, our Year 1 and Year 2 children are getting active in a new way with Physical Friday!

Each week, we’ll be focusing on fun activities that build fine motor skills, coordination and control – all while having a great time. From Dough Disco to Flipper Flappers  and more, the children will be strengthening their fingers and hands to support their writing, drawing and everyday skills.

The sessions are packed with music, movement, and lots of smiles – helping little hands get stronger and more confident.

We can’t wait to see the progress our children make as they move, groove, and improve!

Celebration Assembly 3rd Oct 2025

5th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

What a fantastic way to end the week at West Boldon!

Today we celebrated our Golden Coin Star of the Week Assembly, where children were recognised for showing our Gold Standards.

We also had the big reveal of our Opal Golden Welly competition – the lucky winning class gained an extra 5 minutes of break time.

The Golden Coin awards are now linked to our brand-new behaviour tracking system, making it even easier to celebrate positive choices across school.

Well done to all our shining stars – you make us so proud every single day!

From Script to Sound: Class 10 Create Their Own Podcasts

1st October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 10 had a great day today, recording and editing their own podcasts.

The children have spent their literacy lessons this week planning and writing a script for their podcast to interview the witch from our class book, “The Lost Happy Endings”.

This morning they learnt how to record their interview, then this afternoon they learned how to edit, cut, and split, as well as add music and sound effects.

We can’t wait to share our finished podcasts.

Little Explorers Begin Their Big Adventure

1st October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Our new Nursery and Reception children have settled into life at West Boldon Primary so well!

It’s hard to believe they’ve only been with us a few short weeks, as it already feels like they’ve been part of our school family for months.

They’ve loved exploring all the different activities in the classroom and have had so much fun investigating and playing in our Early Years garden.

We’re so proud of how confidently they’ve started their journey with us!

Northumbrian Pipers’ Society visit Year 6

28th September 2025Miss K. Wilkinson
As part of our ELE, Year 6 were delighted to welcome Andrew Davison OBE, Chairman of The Northumbrian Pipers’ Society, along with Nicola, a talented piper, into school today!
Year 6 were captivated as Andrew and Nicola shared the rich history and cultural importance of the Northumbrian small pipes — a unique instrument to our region. They played a variety of songs, giving everyone a chance to hear the distinctive sound of the pipes, and laid out four different sets to show how the instrument has evolved over time — from just 8 notes to the 20-note version used today.
Children loved discovering how the pipes are made, connecting this to their classroom learning in a hands-on and exciting way. Andrew also spoke about his prestigious role as piper to His Grace, the Duke of Northumberland, bringing history and tradition right into the classroom.
The session ended on a high note as the children even had the chance to try the pipes themselves — sparking real curiosity and enthusiasm for this special part of our North East heritage.

You asked, we did!

28th September 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Recently, our Team Communicators (School Council) asked their classes the question: “How could school make reading more fun?”

The children had lots of brilliant ideas, including:

  1. Holding a book exchange in school
  2. Inviting families into school to read together
  3. Having more audiobooks in class
  4. Having more comic or graphic books to take home
  5. kindles and e-readers

After counting votes across classes, the clear winner was… Inviting families into school to read together!

We love how our children value reading as a shared experience. Keep an eye out for exciting opportunities coming soon where you’ll be able to join us in school and enjoy books together with your child.

Year 5 visit to OpenZone

26th September 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

The Year 5’s had an amazing day out on Thursday this week at Open Zone at The Word. They absolutely loved the hands-on activities, which gave them the chance to put their programming skills into action using Micro:bits and Crumbles.

Throughout the day, the children explored how coding can be applied in the real world. With the Micro:bits, they learned how to send and decode secret messages, program mini-games, and design colourful light sequences. Using the Crumble kits, they had the chance to build and control moving models, experimenting with motors, sensors, and LEDs to bring their ideas to life.

The children showed great perseverance as they debugged their programs, tested different solutions, and worked together to solve challenges. They were particularly excited when their code successfully powered up motors or when their light shows dazzled the room!

It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they realised how their classroom learning could be used creatively with real devices. The day was a fantastic celebration of teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation – a brilliant way to bring computing to life!
