SPARTACUS LIVES!

18th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Our brave Year 5s channelled their inner warriors during their Commando Joe mission today! They worked together to FREE the hostages — just like Spartacus and his fearless crew freeing the gladiators from the clutches of the Roman Empire!

There was crawling, sneaking, planning, shouting (and a bit of dramatic rolling)… all in the name of teamwork and ancient heroism!

Watch out Rome… West Boldon’s Year 5s are coming for you!

Year 4 visit to Durham Cathedral

15th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 4 had an amazing trip to Durham Cathedral!

As part of our topic, “Why do people visit Durham Cathedral today?”, we explored the history, art, and faith that make this place so special.

From stunning stained glass windows to peaceful prayer spaces, we discovered how the cathedral is not just a building – it’s a place of worship, learning, and community.

The children asked brilliant questions and showed great curiosity throughout.

A huge thank you to the cathedral staff and volunteers for helping the children with their project.

Ice Cream Van visits KS1

10th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

What a well-deserved treat for our amazing Key Stage 1 children!

As a reward for all their hard work in phonics lessons this year — and their brilliant efforts in the phonics screening check — the children were surprised with a visit from the ice cream van!

The excitement was contagious as they spotted it pulling into school! Everyone enjoyed a delicious Mr Whippy while sitting on the grass, chatting and laughing with friends in the sunshine.

Well done, Key Stage 1 — we’re so proud of you!

Summer Fair 2025!

10th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

What an amazing evening at the West Boldon Primary School Summer Fair!

A huge THANK YOU to all the families, friends and supporters who came along – your support means the world to us!

The weather was kind, the BBQ was sizzling, and the laughter was non-stop – especially when Mr. McCormack and Neil the caretaker got soaked with wet sponges!

We were thrilled to welcome the local fire brigade, ambulance service, Amy’s Ices, and the NHS England Oral Health Team – thank you all for giving up your time and making the event so special!

It truly felt like a proper community celebration, and thanks to your generosity, we’ve raised fantastic funds to help subsidise school trips and support next week’s exciting Colour Run!

Here’s to a summer full of fun, smiles, and community spirit!

Celebration Assembly 4th July 2025

4th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

This morning, we held our Star of the Week Golden Coin Celebration Assembly and it was absolutely wonderful to hear how so many of our children are consistently reaching our school’s Gold STANDARDS—both in their behaviour and their attitudes to learning.

Well done to all of our shining stars this week!

A quick reminder: Next week is a very important one in the school calendar. It’s our Final Assessment Week, where teachers will carry out a series of tests to measure the progress children have made throughout the academic year.

On Tuesday, we will also be sending home end-of-year school reports, which will include the class teachers for next year. Please keep an eye out for these in your child’s bag!

Let’s all keep up the great effort and finish the year strong!

A Journey Through Time at West Boldon!

3rd July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Today, our children were taken on a fascinating journey through the history of our local area during a special assembly. They discovered some incredible inventions made right on our doorstep – including the pioneering work of Joseph Swan and George Stephenson!

We then explored the history of our own school site – did you know that before West Boldon Primary was built, it was just open fields with a burn running through it? The school first opened as West Boldon County Junior Mixed School on 3rd October 1963, officially opened by Alderman J. Lynch B.E.M.

The children were captivated by an original commemorative pamphlet and old photographs showing classrooms and the school hall from many years ago.

Do you remember West Boldon School back in the day? We’d love for you to share your memories with your children and bring the past to life at home.

1st July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Our talented Art Club took full advantage of the lovely weather this week by heading down to the Secret Garden!

The children gathered natural materials and used them to create some absolutely stunning transient art. Their creativity and imagination shone through every leaf, twig, and petal!

What a wonderful way to end a Monday!
