We will remember them…

11th November 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

This week, our school community has come together to remember and honour those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

Our Remembrance commemorations began on Sunday, when representatives from West Boldon Primary School proudly attended the Boldon Colliery War Memorial service. A beautiful wreath, made by our children, was laid in memory of all the soldiers who fought and died for us — a gesture of respect and gratitude from our whole school community.

Back in school, pupils reflected on the importance of remembrance through a special assembly, which shared stories of bravery, loss, and hope. This was followed by our two-minute silence at 11 o’clock, when the whole school gathered in the hall to pause, reflect, and remember together.

Year 5 Multi-Skills Day at Sunderland University

11th November 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Our Year 5 pupils had an amazing day at Sunderland University, taking part in a fun-filled multi-skills event!

The university students put them through their paces with a variety of exciting ball games, team challenges, and coordination activities.

Everyone showed great energy, teamwork, and determination — and, of course, had lots of fun!

A huge thank you to Sunderland University for hosting such a brilliant day!

Using our POWERS for GOOD this Anti-Bullying Week

11th November 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Today, our Year 3 pupils were delighted to welcome Vicky from KalmaLife as part of our Anti-Bullying Week activities.

During the session, the children explored the power of their breath — discovering how simple breathing techniques can help them manage big feelings, stay calm in tricky situations, and show kindness and empathy towards others. They also learned how to share these calming strategies with friends, helping to create a more caring and supportive school community.

The workshop ended with a peaceful guided meditation, leaving everyone feeling relaxed, centered, and ready to use their inner calm to make a positive difference.

Thank you to Vicky and KalmaLife for such a wonderful and meaningful session!

Celebration Assembly 7th Nov 2025

7th November 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

What a fantastic way to round off the week!

Friday’s Celebration Assembly was bursting with pride and positivity as we recognised pupils who continue to shine by upholding our Gold Standards in both learning and behaviour.

We’re incredibly proud of them all — and you should be too!

A huge well done to our Golden Coin winner — a wonderful friend who has shown such kindness, support, and positivity towards others. Not only has she been a caring and reliable friend, but she’s also been a huge help in choir, always ready to lend a hand and lift others’ spirits with her enthusiasm.

She truly embodies what it means to be a West Boldon star!

Paired Reading

5th November 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

At West Boldon Primary, we absolutely LOVE reading!

We truly believe that reading is the most important thing a primary school can help children to develop — it opens doors to imagination, learning, and lifelong curiosity.

One of the ways we nurture this passion is through our Tuesday afternoon shared paired reading sessions, where children from different classes come together to share their favourite books. Older pupils read to younger ones, creating a wonderful buzz of storytelling and excitement around books.

These sessions don’t just build a love of reading — they also strengthen friendships across year groups and fill our school with smiles, laughter, and the joy of stories.

WBPS Halloween Night Market 2025!

28th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

What a night!

Our West Boldon Primary School Halloween Night Market was a spooktacular success!

The buzz around school has been amazing — from the pumpkin picking and games to the stalls, tombolas, food and crafts — every corner was full of laughter, excitement, and Halloween spirit!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support, and an extra special shout-out to our fantastic local stall holders and businesses who helped make the event such a hit. Your creativity and community spirit truly made the night shine!

We’re already thinking ahead — and next year promises to be even bigger and better!

Animations in the ARC

25th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

To wrap up their topic on animation, Arc 2 got creative with stop motion on the iPads! They started by making a toy car appear to move, taking photos step by step using a stop motion app. Watching their creations come to life was a big hit!

We then got into the Halloween spirit by building Lego figures and turning them into our own animated stories. Some even used spooky backgrounds to make their animations extra fun! The children had a fantastic time bringing their ideas to life.

Year 1/2 Visit Washington Wetland Centre

24th October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 1 and Year 2 pupils enjoyed a fantastic educational visit to Washington Wetland Centre, where they explored a range of wetland habitats and discovered the wildlife that lives there. The children loved observing birds up close, learning about different animals, and exploring the natural environment through hands-on activities.

During the visit, pupils developed their understanding of habitats, food chains and how wetlands help protect wildlife. They asked thoughtful questions, shared their observations, and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day. A highlight for many was spotting different birds and exploring the ponds and nature trails.

The trip supported our classroom learning and gave the children a valuable opportunity to learn outside, building curiosity and respect for the natural world. The children were excellent ambassadors for our school, demonstrating great behaviour and teamwork. We would like to thank the staff at WWT!

Year 3 become ANIMATORS!

22nd October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 3 had a very exciting visitor today as part of their ELE for their Dimensions topic “That’s All Folks!” Mr. Robert from the OpenZone joined us to teach the children how to create their very own stop-motion animations using Stikbot and iMovie.

The pupils experimented with their characters, carefully moving and photographing them to bring their stories to life. They even tried out green screen (or blue screen!) techniques — using our classroom chairs as creative props!

Once their animations were complete, they imported them into iMovie, adding titles, photos, and soundtracks before exporting their finished films to share with their classmates.

The teamwork, creativity, and enthusiasm on display were fantastic — well done, Year 3!
A huge thank you to Mr. Robert for an inspiring and imaginative day.

Commando Joe’s – Year 5 Space Mission

22nd October 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 5 had an out-of-this-world Commando Joe’s session today! The children suited up for an exciting space walk challenge, using top-notch teamwork and communication skills to collect precious lunar rock samples.

Working in pairs, they showed amazing perseverance, determination, and stellar cooperation to complete their mission successfully.

Well done, Year 5 – you truly reached for the stars!
