In Year 3 this week the children have been making their very own volcanoes! They used a plastic bottle, cardboard, and masking tape to create a frame, then began adding newspaper in the form of paper-mache to create the shape.
In Year 3 we are looking at forces and magnets. As part of this topic we investigated how far a car will travel on different surfaces, and why this happens. We each made a prediction, which surface will cause the car to travel the furthest; grass, tarmac, wood or carpet. We had to make sure our investigation was a fair test by only changing the surface each time, and keeping every other variable the same. We then made large a graph of our results.
In Year 3 we have been writing newspaper reports about the events of Pompeii. We talked about how we could describe to the reader exactly what happened using adjectives and lots of detail, and some of us even began to add in quotes using inverted commas. Once the children had written their reports, we edited and improved them, before typing them up on the Chromebooks.’
Thursday 5th December KS2 visited St Nicholas Church in Boldon. The children were told about the history of the church; the architecture of the church, showing us how we knew it had been extended, the meaning of the stained glass windows and about the history of St Nicholas himself. The priest then used two of our pupils to explain the meaning of Christingle – Jesus the light of the world. He explained how the christingle is made up and what each part represents;
To finish the children sang Christmas songs!
Year three have been learning about how fossils are made and then have moved onto looking at volcanoes. The children have been so enthusiastic on this topic that we thought it was only fair that we let them make their own, they are due to erupt on Thursday…….pictures to follow!!
Year 3 had a great morning at Boldon Independent Methodist Church this morning with ‘Bibles comes alive.’ The children loved every minute of the stories from the bible coming ‘alive’ through drama.
