As part of their new topic “Lightning Speed”, the Year 4 children have been learning about networks.
We went on a network hunt around the school to see how all of our devices are connected to the main server.
We then used drama to recreate a LAN (local area network) where children took on different roles in a network. The string represented the wires and cables. The laptop was not connected via wires because it is a wireless connection.
We simulated different tasks such as printing a document, opening a webpage and editing a document. Well done, Year 4!
Today the Year 3 children completed a ‘100 numbers to get students talking’ maths challenge.
The children worked in groups of 3 with a 3 minute timer. They each had a coloured pencil and had to take it turns to find and circle their number and reach the highest possible number as a group.
They soon realised after the first round that there were patterns, but it also prompted maths discussion and team work. Each time the children were confident at beating their previous scores.
This challenge promoted communication, participation, planning, resilience and support which are key values at West Boldon.
The children were treated to a visit from Westoe RFC Coach, John, this week, when he returned to school to present the children with their trophies from his rugby sessions this year.
All children from Years 2-6 took part in rugby as part of their PE lessons this year, and over the year John had been looking for 2 children in each year group who impressed him by working hard, showing resilience, or excelling in the sport.
Here are some photos from our wonderful rugby presentation celebration assembly!
Some of our eco-warriors celebrated their 1st year as part of our eco-commmittee by harvesting the peas we planted, giving the Secret Garden a final tidy and toasting some yummy marshmallows.
These children have done a super job this year, introducing many new initiatives to help us become a more eco-friendly school!
What a fabulous afternoon Class 4 had on Friday!
Following Thursday’s planning and pattern making lesson, the children used their self designed tiles to explore block printing.
The children were amazed at the effects and were really interested in playing with colour and overlaying just like the artist Andy Warhol who we have talked about.
Take a look at their amazing creations!
Year 1 had a wonderful afternoon crafting and toasting marshmallows in The Secret Garden.
These children have helped staff to develop this wonderful space over the past two years and now they can enjoy it for years to come at our school.
Class 4 took a trip down to the Secret Garden today to release our butterflies.
The children have been observing the changes from tiny caterpillar to chrysalis and then to butterfly over the past few weeks.
This week, Year 3 have been learning about angles. They know that an angle is where two straight lines meet at a point.
Yesterday, they began looking at the sizes of different angles. They used right angle finders in pairs to measure the size of the different angles on their tables in masking tape, then they labelled each angle with their mathematical name- acute angles being smaller than a right angle, and obtuse angles being greater than a right angle.
