A Day of Discovery at St Nicholas Church!

19th February 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Our Year 3 children had a fantastic time visiting St Nicholas Church this week as part of their RE topic, “What can we learn about Christian beliefs from visiting churches?” It was a busy afternoon of hands-on learning! The children:

  • Completed a fast-paced scavenger hunt around the building.

  • Captured photos of beautiful and historic objects.

  • Explored the bells, the pulpit, the altar, the organ, and the font with Reverend Paul.

A huge thank you to Reverend Paul for answering our many insightful questions, and to Brenda, who shared her wonderful stories of attending the church since she was just 11 years old!

Back in the classroom, the children have been busy comparing their findings with Boldon Independent Methodist Church, which they visited a few weeks back, and reflecting on how the church building helps people express their faith.

Well done, Year 3, for being such respectful and curious learners!

Year 3/4 become Odyssey Adventurers!

18th February 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3/4 had an amazing day at the Hancock Museum in Newcastle!

The children took part in a brilliant Time Odyssey, using iPads to complete challenges inspired by the Vikings, Ancient China, the Romans and Ancient Egypt

They chose a character and helped them on their journey by photographing artefacts from the museum’s exhibits and answering questions along the way. Using their research, the children created amulets, designed maps, and even made protective cloaks – creativity at its best!

The children also spent time exploring the museum galleries, discovering fascinating artefacts and making excellent links to their history learning back in school.

A truly fantastic day filled with curiosity, creativity and hands-on learning.

Pancake Day in the ARC

18th February 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

A Lovely Morning in ARC! Our amazing ARC children had a fantastic morning enjoying a hands-on cooking session, making their very own pancakes on the hob. From mixing the ingredients to carefully watching the pancakes cook (and flip!), the children were involved and engaged every step of the way.

Once the pancakes were ready, the fun continued as everyone chose their favourite toppings. There were lots of smiles, great choices being made and a real sense of pride as the children sat down together to enjoy something they had made themselves.

Activities like this are about so much more than cooking. They help develop independence, confidence, communication and teamwork, while also supporting fine motor skills and following instructions. Most importantly, the children had a calm, happy morning together — and the pancakes were absolutely delicious!

Well done to our ARC superstars!

Our Favourite Time of the Week! Fridays at West Boldon Primary always end on a high with our Star of the Week & Golden Coin Assembly.

It’s such a pleasure hearing about the amazing ways our children are meeting the Gold Standards – from brilliant attitudes to learning, to real improvements in effort, behaviour and progress.

Celebrating these successes together reminds us just how hard our pupils work every day. We’re incredibly proud of them all!

Year 4 enjoy Number Day 2026!

9th February 2026Miss K. Wilkinson
Class 10 took part in an active maths lesson today for Number Day. In teams they were challenged to race through the obstacle course finding calculations to solve with their team members.
The challenge of the game – find and solve all twelve calculations, remember the right calculation and solve it.

Later on, Class 10 took part in a country-wide TTRS challenge for Number Day.

The children are working hard to learn their multiplication facts and today was a fun way to continue this trying to get on to scoreboards against schools across the country.

Comparing Sacred Spaces: Year 3 Visit Boldon Methodist Church

4th February 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 had a lovely trip to visit Boldon Methodist church this morning.

As part of our RE topic, we are visiting places of worship to allow us to compare the similarities and differences.

The children learned lots about the history of the church and we took lots of photos of things we thought might be different in another church.

We had a tour, asked lots of questions and had an opportunity to see the organ and hear it being played. We had a great time and of course finished with learning a fun song and dance!

We can’t wait to visit St Nicholas’s church in a few weeks time.

Gold Standards in Action: Teaching Kindness in Early Years

4th February 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Reception and Nursery children continued their learning about our school’s Gold Standards of behaviour through a PSHE/ Understanding the World lesson focused on respect and kindness. Working in small groups, they explored a range of pictures and words, discussing which ones showed kind or unkind behaviour. This activity sparked thoughtful conversations, helping the children understand how their words and actions affect others. It was a wonderful opportunity to practise using kind language and to celebrate respectful choices in everyday life.

Footprints of Resistance: Expressive Street Art in Year 4

4th February 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

As part of their ongoing exploration of the topic of slavery, Year 4 children created expressive artwork inspired by Banksy’s street art style. Using a footprint stencil as a central symbol, they combined bold colours and layered textures to represent themes of movement, identity, and resistance. Around the footprint, they incorporated calligraphy—recently learned in class—to write powerful words like “Freedom,” “Master,” and “Slaves,” encouraging reflection and discussion.
