Painting the Moon

19th October 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 5 are enjoying their Dimensions topic ‘Mission Control’. Today in Art we looked closely at the different colours and textures of the Moon. We then thought carefully about how to create a realistic version. We think they look great and showed some real artistic skills. We will continue to develop these skills this week.

Portraying emotions through dance

19th October 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 4 have been exploring how to portray emotions through dance to music today. We talked about how our bodies might move to music that makes us feel sad, happy, angry and scared. We applied our new knowledge from our music lessons as we listened and talked about the tempo and dynamics. We then created a partner dance to show the emotions and tell the story of when Red Riding Hood met the Wolf at Grandmas. The children created some amazing dances!

Year 3’s visit to Live Tales Sunderland

28th September 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 enjoyed a trip to Sunderland today to take part in a Live Tales workshop.

They discussed the essentials of storytelling, and learned that no idea is a bad idea when we are being creative!

They worked together to come up with a character, a sidekick, a setting and an introduction to the story before finishing it off independently. The children had such fantastic ideas and it was lovely to see them writing freely!

We are looking forward to receiving our stories in the post in the next few weeks.

Westoe Rugby Club Trophy Presentation Celebration

21st July 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

The children were treated to a visit from Westoe RFC Coach, John, this week, when he returned to school to present the children with their trophies from his rugby sessions this year.

All children from Years 2-6 took part in rugby as part of their PE lessons this year, and over the year John had been looking for 2 children in each year group who impressed him by working hard, showing resilience, or excelling in the sport.

Here are some photos from our wonderful rugby presentation celebration assembly!

Scottish Reel Dancing

7th July 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

In Year 4, our current topic is “Picture our Planet,” where we are learning about contrasting localities around the world.

First, we learnt all about Brazil in terms of its location in the world, climate, physical and human features and traditions.

We are now learning about Scotland and today we learnt a traditional Scottish reel dance. The children all worked so hard learning the steps and then performing for Mrs Garr.
