School Council Elections 2020

9th November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

This week our whole school began voting for our School Council representatives. Children put themselves forward for the role because they wanted to represent their class and their year group bubble in the big decisions relating to life in our school.

Children thought carefully about who to vote, ensuring they were voting for someone who would be reliable, approachable and sensible in their role. We even use authentic ballot papers and ballot boxes!

The winners for each year group bubble will be revealed in Monday’s assembly.

A Stone Age feast around the fire pit!

7th November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

Mr McCormack’s class had a great morning around our school fire pit area being transported back to the Stone Age to try and recreate what it must have felt like.

They tasted similar food and imagined what it would be like back then. This was then used in a writing lesson where children wrote their own Stone Age setting description.

As they had the fire going they then got to have some very un-Stone age marshmallows melted over the fire too! 🔥

Meditating

7th November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

As part of our R.E. lessons in Year 3 this week we have been thinking about Hinduism. We discussed the ritual of puja and how Hindus worship their gods by giving offerings, chanting and meditating. We then had a go of meditating ourselves using a guided meditation video from ‘Peace Out’.

The children enjoyed this so much they wanted to complete 2 more over the course of the week!

Year 2 Autumn 2 Focus Text

5th November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

As we run up to Christmas time, Year 2 will be reading the festive story ‘Coming Home’ by Michael Morpurgo.

It is an exciting adventure story about a brave little robin’s long journey home battling through storms, oceans and terrifying hawk attacks.

During the half term we will be writing non chronological reports about robins, diary writing from different characters perspectives and retelling scenes using exciting verbs. In line with Talk for Writing, we will be retelling the story using actions and phrases before innovating the story and changing different elements to create our own narrative.

Here is a video of author Michael Morpurgo telling the story:

Year 1 and 1/2 Autumn 2 Focus Text

2nd November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson
This next term in Year 1 we are going to be reading ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers.
This was a favourite of ours in Reception and we cannot wait to start doing some fantastic work in our Literacy lessons!
We are going to be looking at writing lists, in particular a list of what might be in our suitcases if we were characters in the story. We are going to create some brilliant pieces of work this term.

Year 4 Autumn 2 Focus Text

2nd November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

This half term, Year 4 will be reading ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ by Phillip Pullman.

The story is a wonderful adventure which mixes old and modern fairy tales together. It features the main character Lila, who is on a quest to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a great firework maker. She must journey to get Royal Sulphur from Razvani the Fire-Fiend at Mount Merapi, a journey which is filled with peril and wonder.

For the first few weeks Year 4 will be focussing on character descriptions of the main character and letter writing to Lila’s father using the skills we developed in the first half term. We will then learn about the features and structure of a narrative. We will write setting descriptions and include them when we write a missing chapter about the Fire-Fiend.
