Year 4 have been learning about circuits in Science.
We were set the challenge to create street lights for a dimly lit town.
We worked in groups to make our own little town a within a shoe box and then used circuits to light them up!

This week, Year 2 have started Rugby training with John from Westoe Rugby Club.
This is a brilliant opportunity for our children to explore team games within different sports and work with an affiliated Rugby coach. Perhaps he might discover some talent within our younger school community!
This half term Year 3 will be reading George’s Marvellous Medicine in Literacy. Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking at different types of poetry and writing our own.

We are very lucky to have John from Westoe Rugby Club come to our school on a weekly basis to work with the children in their PE lessons. Last half term, it was Year 5’s turn to receive his expert coaching!
After completing our first novel, ‘My Dad’s a Birdman’, Year 6 will be reading ‘The Island’ by Armin Greder. This is a powerful graphic novel for all ages about how human beings respond to outsiders.
When the people of the Island discover a man and a tattered raft on their beach, they are reluctant to take him in. He doesn’t look like them. But they cannot send him back to the sea where he will surely perish. Instead, they put him aside but even that doesn’t solve their problem.
From this we will complete reading journal sessions where we will delve deeper into the meanings behind the book, improve our comprehension skills and look at the vocabulary. We will write a debate during our literacy lessons.

Year 6 finished their forces topic with an experiment on friction. They used a shoe to discover how friction acts on rough and smooth surfaces. They predicted, experimented, recorded results, graphed and concluded.
Year 6 enjoyed reading My Dad’s a Birdman last half term. We learned about the lives of Dad and Lizzie and how they coped with grief by entering a Birdman competition. We wrote a character description, diary entry and a description of our favourite meal.
As part of Year 5’s Dimensions theme: Mission Control, in ICT, the children had to design and create sci-fi comics based on an adventure in space.
The children produced some fantastic comic strips and their love for science and ICT really shine through.
