Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover

23rd October 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

In literacy, Year 5 have been writing setting descriptions from the perspective of the main character of our topic book: Curiosity the Mars Rover.

We focused on using the 5 senses, alliteration, onomatopoeias, personifications, similes and metaphors in our writing to help create vivid descriptions for our readers.

Year 3 mini teachers

21st October 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

The children in Year 3 have had fun this week taking on the role of the teacher.

They had to plan a lesson in pairs, thinking about what they wanted to teach, resources needed and behaviour expectations.

Today they implemented their plans and had 10 minutes to teach a new skill to the class.

We had lessons such as times tables, maths partitioning and drawing. I think we have some future teachers in the making.

Cinderella’s heart

21st October 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 1 have been talking in class about how our actions can make others feel.
We used the story of Cinderella, thinking about the actions and words of her step sisters and the impact of these on Cinderella’s feelings and well-being.
As we thought about the unkind things the sisters said and did, Cinderella’s “heart” was crumpled.  The children were shocked to see this happen and realised even when apologies are made sad feelings may still remain and we should try hard to always be kind.

Clay pots for Cinderella

21st October 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

We were set the challenge of making a clay pot  for Cinderella to keep her treasures in.

The children explored how to change the shape of the clay to become a pot by rolling, squashing, squeezing and twisting.
Some children spent a long time perfecting their pots, spotting problems with their designs , adding decorations and making lids.
I am sure any Cinderella who gets to use the pots to keep their treasures in will be thrilled!

Little Red Riding Hood Soundscapes

21st October 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Class four have been exploring the sounds they can make using musical instruments. We used the story Little Red Riding Hood to try to create a sound scape to reflect the mood and events in the story. We annotated a story map for our graphic score to help us know when to play our instruments.

Listen to our piece of music and see if you can hear the mood change.

PE with Mr Gibson

21st October 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 1 this term have been practising basic skills – controlling the ball, throwing and catching as well as listening to and remembering  the rules of the game and tasks.

We have loved working with Mr Gibson and learning how to throw and catch by ourselves and to a friend. We are getting really good and have learnt how to follow the bean bag with our eyes to help us catch successfully.

Stop-motion animation using plasticine

21st October 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
As part of Year 3’s Dimensions topic, That’s All Folks, the children have been learning about animation through computing, art and history.

They have learnt about different types of animation, how animation started and how it’s developed.

The children have been inspired by our trip to South Shields Museum with Sheila Graber and most recently Wallace and Gromit. They storyboarded and created their own plasticine stop motion using the iPads.

Here are some of our amazing creations!
