Well done to all our amazing stars this week and also our two headteacher golden token award winners. It’s been another good week here at West Boldon. 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️
Year 6 enjoyed their first educational visit of the year this week. They travelled to The Word in South Shields where they met the OpenZone staff and worked on their chromebooks. They learned some computer science skills in Scratch and created their own coded creations!

Year 3 are feeling very INSPIRED after meeting the amazing Sheila Graber earlier this week and learning all about animation.
Today they returned to school and created their own 2D animations in Sheila’s style using the iPads.
Take a look at some of our amazing creations!
Year 3 took on their third CoJo mission today focusing on Ed Stafford and his two year trip to the Amazon.
They had to work in groups to cross the river (mats), taking their equipment with them, and getting all of their team members across without falling in.
It was a really tricky task but the children worked so well as a team! Even after the adults began adding in curve balls of things to avoid such as snakes (ropes), crocodiles (large nets), and baby monkeys to save (cuddly toys)!

When torrential rain stopped us from visiting The OpenZone @ The Word, The OpenZone came to us!

Yet another fantastic afternoon Year 2 have had completing their next Commando Joe mission!
As part of their CJ Pocahontas unit, Classes 5 and 6 have been acting as Native Americans and English Explorers to complete missions and challenges.
This week the poor Native Americans were suffering from a drought (nothing like the weather we’ve had today
️) and the English explorers had to work together as a team to help transport water from their extremely hydrated camp to the Native American’s dry and baron camp!
We thoroughly enjoyed this mission and truly put our empathy and communication skills to the test! Well Done Year 2!
Year 3 went on their first Essential Learning Experience of the year today when they visited South Shields Museum and Art Gallery to meet and look at the work of local animator Sheila Graber.
This trip was linked to their Dimensions topic – ‘That’s All Folks!’ which focuses primarily on history and computing through the context of film and animation.
During their time in the museum, the children visited the exhibition on Sheila Graber and learned about her life and some of her many accomplishments. They then took part in a workshop where they animated using an iPad and Stop Motion Studio.
Children will then apply this learning on their return to school where they will storyboard their own animations and create them using the same app.

Here is a video of the outcome of our workshop – what talented animators we have in Year 3!

Year 4 had a visit from the community police to learn all labour Internet safety and safe use of social media. This was part of our topic “Lightning Speed” where we are learning all about the inner workings of the World Wide Web.
We have been learning about tempo in music, which is the speed of the music. We played “speed fiends” and had to Copy the tempo created by one of our friends. We also had to move to the speed of different pieces of music.
