In year 6, we have been reading ‘I was there… Titanic’ by Margi McAllister. We have been exploring the two main characters in the story, Daisy and Jimmy. The pair have met on board the ship. Coming from very different backgrounds, we compared the two, looking carefully at their similarities and differences. We transformed our plans into a final write up! We hope you enjoy reading about the new found friends!
Year 2 have been reading the story ‘Wild’ and tracking the main characters feelings throughout the text. We learnt the valuable skill of how to use a thesaurus to find better alternatives for words such as ‘happy’ or ‘sad’. We will be trying to use some of the interesting words we found this week when we write a diary in role as the little girl.

Children have written and typed up their own rainforest adverts. Children worked together with friends to make heir leaflets as interesting and attractive as possible. using skills such as importing pictures, altering backgrounds and selecting an appropriate size and style of font.
This week, Year 5 took park in a workshop led by two visitors working for Pfizer. The visitors discussed medicine with the children, including how it is made and tested. Children then developed their own medicine packaging. Throughout the session, children had lots of questions for the visitors and seemed to really enjoy the activities they completed.
An Amazon adventure story set in the wilderness of Brazil, Journey to the River Sea is filled with mystery and memorable characters. It is 1910 and Maia, tragically orphaned at thirteen, has been sent from England to start a new life with distant relatives in Manaus, hundreds of miles up the Amazon.
Year 3 have had a fantastic time learning about scaling in maths, they had to initially learning what this meant and how to scale up and down numbers. After developing a good understanding of this they then got to put this into practice with instructions on how to make different quantities of scones. The end result was very tasty!
Pfizer came to run ‘Medicine snd Me‘ workshops with Year 6. We discovered how medicines are made and what is found in a medicine cabinet. We then packaged medicines to distribute around the world. At the end a q&a session enabled us to discover more about the company, medicine design, medicine manufacturing and careers in pharmaceuticals. We also learned from Adele, Kirsten and Sarah that there are many other jobs at Phizer, and not just scientists. Year 6 pupils were inspired by our workshops and hopefully many of our pupils will enter the science and engineering workplace in the future. Thank you Pfizer!
