Reception celebrated National Numeracy Day by taking their learning outside today!
The children were tasked with going on a shape hunt in their outdoor area. They managed to find lots of examples of both 2D and 3D shapes!
Well done Reception!

This week in Maths in Class 1, we have been looking at numbers to 5. We have been forming numbers and representing them using a range of objects. We have been linking this all to NumberBlocks. The children have been building the number block cartoons to match the picture of them and then counting them to make sure they are correct. Here’s a picture of the activity and a picture of our display we have been using to support our maths work.
This week in class 2 we have been celebrating ‘Pete the Cat’s’ birthday, he turned 5 this week!
We have been recognising numerals to five and counting out a specific number of items. The children have loved making play dough cakes for Pete.

This week in number we have begun to learn about the numbers beyond 5. We are digging deeper when learning about numbers and investigating different ways to make our numbers.
We have stunned our teachers with how we are able to remember and transfer our knowledge of number bonds to 5 to these bigger numbers. We demonstrated that we have really understood the part-whole method as we were quickly able to see how we could split amounts in to two parts and then recombine to get our total.
Class 1 and 2 and been exploring how to make number bonds within 5 this past few weeks.
We have played games – throwing bean bags in to hoops and creating number sentences.
We have begin to explore the part-whole method to help us recall our number facts.
We have used numicon to explore different ways of joining numbers together to make our number bonds.
