28th June 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

We have been celebrating diversity at school this week by taking part in various activities across the school to celebrate difference.
Year 1
In Year 1 the children have been thinking about how everyone they meet is different. They have created some amazing artwork which showcases how every child in Year 1 is unique and special in their own ways.

They used the brightest colours they could and worked hard to show that everyone should be proud of who they are!

Year 1/2
Year 1/2 looked at the book “It’s ok to be different” by Todd Parr. We talked about all the different ways we are different to one another and agreed these things make us all unique, special and wonderful. Class four would like to tell the world “it’s ok if…..”
It's ok to have different coloured skin It's ok to dance It's ok to have different hair It's ok to wear glasses It's ok to have different families It's ok to have different pets It's ok to be happy It's ok to be upset, shocked, sad, or happy It's ok to have different kinds of ears It's ok to have different colour skin It's ok to be tall

Year 2
In PE , Year 2 have been finding out a little more about talented LGBT+ sportspeople and their sports. They played a game where the children had to act out the sport as they raced to find the sportsperson first. They had fun and lots of dojos!

Year 2 listened to the well known story of Elmer the Elephant by David McKee and talked about being unique. They made Their own bespoke elephants to reflect their own personalities and differences.

Red = Life
Orange = Healing
Yellow = Sun

Royal Blue = Harmony

Pale pink and pale blue = Trans flag
Brown = LGBT people of colour

Year 6

Year 6 had a Friday afternoon session on Diversity. They wrote what diversity meant to each of them, then created profiles about themselves to show how they are different from one another. They then found someone else in the year group that had their own special values.

Year 6 also spent time decorating their classroom door to show how inclusive and accepting their classroom is. They completed acrostics for the inside of the classroom and decorated bunting in bright colours for the outside.

Anti Bullying Week 2020

20th November 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

This week to recognise Anti-Bullying Week at West Boldon we had an Odd Socks Day!

It was a great way to celebrate what makes us all different and to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! Here are some colourful socks worn by our Year 2 children.

Years 2, 3 and 4 also participated in an online workshop offered by staff at the OpenZone. The children learned what cyber-bullying is, when it occurs, how to reduce their risk of being bullied online and how to support others who have been or are being subjected to cyber-bullying.

“It taught me to be kind online” – Kaiden

“It taught me that playing games that are too old for me because I will be playing with adults and might be more at risk of cyber-bullying” – Codey

“If I was cyber-bullied it would make me feel sad” – Megan

“I can show people respect online by understanding they have different ideas” – Bubacarr

Further up the school in Year 6, Class 12 took part in activities to understand Anti-Bullying Week 2020. They had great discussions about bullying, the victim and perpetrator and empathy. Here is some of their fantastic work:
