Staying Safe Online & in the Community

29th January 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

Today, Dave Brown from Be Safe spoke to our Year 5 and 6 pupils about how to stay safe at home, online, and in the wider community.

The sessions covered:

  • Age restrictions on social media
  • Making safe and sensible choices online
  • Knowing when and how to seek help from trusted adults

Pupils also learned about knife crime and county lines in an age-appropriate and sensitive way, helping them understand the risks, consequences, and the importance of walking away and speaking to a trusted adult.

An important and empowering session that reinforced key safeguarding messages and supported pupils to make safe, responsible choices.

Our Year 5 pupils took part in an important discussion focusing on cyberbullying. They talked about what cyberbullying is, how it can make people feel, and the importance of speaking to a trusted adult if something online doesn’t feel right. The session helped pupils understand how to stay safe, kind, and responsible online.

Year 5 PSHE – Remembrance

20th November 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Today our Year 5 pupils reflected on the importance of Remembrance Day and the symbol of the poppy as a way of honouring those who have been lost in conflict.

Through thoughtful discussion, the children explored why we pause to remember and how the poppy has become a powerful emblem of hope and gratitude. We also talked about how the poppy can be meaningful for children today — not only as a symbol of those who served in the past, but also as a way of remembering loved ones they may have lost themselves.

To mark this, the class worked together to create a beautiful remembrance wreath, which will be displayed during our school’s remembrance celebration.

We are so proud of their empathy, creativity, and respect in commemorating this important tradition.

Foundation of Light Visit – Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds!

27th June 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Today, we welcome (as we do every Friday) the Foundation of Light team into school! They delivered a brilliant session all about healthy lifestyles, helping our children understand that staying healthy isn’t just about exercise—it’s also about eating well too.

Using the Eatwell Guide, the children explored how to build a balanced diet and learned why nutrition is just as important as keeping active.

We loved the Food hunt around the grounds!

A huge thank you to the team for making health and wellbeing fun, engaging and easy to understand!

Working collaboratively

9th June 2023Miss K. Wilkinson

As part of year 5’s PSHE lesson today the children were given Scrabble tiles to make words. The main focus was to see who worked ‘collaboratively’. It was interesting to see who made their own and who worked as a team to make a Scrabble board. We discussed how to improve and work collaboratively and the children began to make group boards by using each other’s alphabet tiles.

Children at West Boldon Primary celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week this week (February 7th – 13th 2022).

Mrs Askwith (our pastoral and wellbeing mentor) spent some time with each class, talking about our own wellbeing, spreading kindness, and focussing on this year’s theme ‘Growing Together’.

Children also took part in a yoga session where they channelled all of their energy, worries and anxieties. Everyone came out of their session incredibly calm!

Finally, on Friday, to round off the week, children were invited to come to school wearing their most expressive outfits to ‘Dress to Express’, sharing their individuality and celebrating their uniqueness.

What a wonderful week we have had!

Anti-Bullying Week 2021

19th November 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
Anti-Bullying Week: One Kind Word

At West Boldon we celebrated Anti-Bullying Week during the week 15th-19th November 2021.

This year’s theme is ‘One Kind Word’. Kindness is more important today than it has ever been. The isolation of the last year has underlined how little acts of consideration can break down barriers and brighten the lives of the people around us.

Our children were able to come to school wearing odd socks on Monday 15th November to recognise and celebrate all of our individual differences.

Year 1's odd socks for Anti Bullying Week Year 2's odd socks for Anti Bullying Week

Each year group took part in a different activity throughout the week to recognise and understand the importance of Anti-Bullying Week.

As part of Year 3’s lesson they made notes of some ideas of ways they could show kindness and respect to one another:

“smile at people”
“play with them”
“you can keep an eye out for them”
“tell them a joke”

Year 3's ideas to be kinder to one another

Year 5 also showed their understanding of what bullying is. Here are their ideas:

In Year 1 the children have been thinking about how everyone they meet is different. They have created some amazing artwork which showcases how every child in Year 1 is unique and special in their own ways.

They used the brightest colours they could and worked hard to show that everyone should be proud of who they are!
