Class 5 and 7’s trip to St Nicholas Church

16th December 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

This morning Class 5 and Class 7 enjoyed a trip to St Nicholas’ Church. They learned about how Christians celebrate Christmas, and asked Rev. Paul some questions relating to the church itself.

All of the children were so impeccably behaved and are a real credit to our school!

What can we learn from visiting a Synagogue?

27th October 2020Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 2 have been finding out about why a Synagogue is a special place for Jews. They learnt about different features found in this place of worship and were able to write sentences to describe how these features were used.

We also found out about Jewish foods eaten during festivals celebrated at the Synagogue.

What can we learn about Christianity by visiting a church?

23rd October 2020Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 1 have been working on the Learning Challenge question: What can we learn about Christianity by visiting a church? this half term. Due to current restrictions, they have not been able to visit a church properly, however, Reverend Paul very kindly gave them a virtual tour of St Nicholas’ Church!

Visit to the library

13th March 2020R Smith

Class One and Two visited East Boldon Library on Tuesday. After a very windy walk , the children were shown around the library.  They had time to look through the children’s section and select their own book.  They then took their book to be stamped. It was many of the children’s first visit to the library and they had lots of questions to ask about what things were and why things happened.

We are looking forward to making lots more trips to the the library in the future.

Year 4’s Trip to EDF Power Station and Teesmouth Field Centre

13th March 2020R Smith

Class 8 recently enjoyed a trip to EDF Power Station in Hartlepool. The children’s Science topic during the Autumn Term was ‘Electricity’ and the trip provided them with a great opportunity to extend their knowledge further. The children enjoyed a presentation where they learned that Hartlepool Power Station is a nuclear power station on the north east coast of England, how they make electricity there and how it is capable of supplying electricity to over 2 million UK homes.

In preparation for our Summer Term Science topic, ‘Living Things and their Habitats’ the children had an opportunity to explore the habitat of, and categorise local living creatures. Following a presentation from the staff at Teesmouth Field Centre, the children enjoyed a scavenger hunt on Teesmouth Beach – using their fingers like a bird’s beak to dig down into the sand. The children found evidence of a variety of animals and habitats – such as; Cockle Shells, Razor Shells, Crabs, Worm Casts, Snail Shells, Sand Dunes, Marram Grass and many more.

Pfizer visit

14th February 2020R Smith

Pfizer came to run ‘Medicine snd Me‘ workshops with Year 6. We discovered how medicines are made and what is found in a medicine cabinet. We then packaged medicines to distribute around the world. At the end a q&a session enabled us to discover more about the company, medicine design, medicine manufacturing and careers in pharmaceuticals. We also learned from Adele, Kirsten and Sarah that there are many other jobs at Phizer, and not just scientists. Year 6 pupils were inspired by our workshops and hopefully many of our pupils will enter the science and engineering workplace in the future. Thank you Pfizer!

Orienteering

7th February 2020R Smith
Orienteering instructor visited Year 5 and led a number of activities. The children looked at a map of the school and identified the different part of the school shown E.g. their own classroom, the hall etc. Children then completed a treasure hunt using the map. Children were not allowed to run and were instructed to stay with their group at all times so teamwork and communication skills were required. Children managed this very well.
