A crash landing!

16th June 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

There was a shocking discovery made in the allotment this week. Our caretaker, Brian found a spacecraft that had crash landed!

He asked if the Year 1 children could help him investigate what had happened and if there were any clues.

They became investigators and wrote a police report with facts and predictions about who may have been flying the craft. They will find out next week when they are introduced to our new literacy text.

One of Class 3’s weekly challenges is to use the iPads to solve simple ‘Wordle’ problems. We have loved using them alongside our friends.

This week we celebrated 25 years of World Book Day by coming to school dressed as our favourite book characters.

All around the school, children had a fantastic time completing activities related to World Book Day, reading with their friends and discussing their love of reading!

Here are some photos of us in our costumes…

When Polly the Penguin came to visit…

9th February 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 4 had a lovely surprise today when the penguin from the story we are studying came to visit.

We found out that she was called Polly Penguin and she just loved to have adventures.

The children asked Polly questions to find out about her adventure from the story Lost and Found.

Polly Penguin noticed our story map and showed us how to adapt the map to make it tell the story from her point of view.

The children then all had a go at creating the story map themselves, pretending they were the penguin!

Lost and Found

24th January 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

In literacy, this term we are studying the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.

We explored the beginning of the story through drama – trying to recreate the scenes from the story and contemplate how the characters might be feeling and what they might be thinking.

The children were able to generate some amazing adjectives to describe how the penguin might feel when he was lost.

They were also able to imagine how the boy felt when he opened the door to see a penguin there and what he might have thought.

Posting our letters to Santa

8th December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
Class 3 wrote some lovely messages to Santa and Mrs Claus last week. Today we walked along to the postbox to post our cards to the North Pole. We think Santa will be impressed with our beautiful writing!

Letters to Santa

2nd December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 4 have been making Christmas cards and writing letters to Santa.

They have worked very hard on them and they have really shown of their developing skills in scissor control, pencil control, handwriting, grammar and spelling.

I am overwhelmed and fantastically impressed at their work. I am sure Santa will think the same himself when he opens them.

Year 1 whole class guided reading

25th September 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 1 have been using the text ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell in their Guided Reading sessions. On Friday, the children worked in pairs to order pictures from the story and used them to retell the story in their own words. After they practised with their partner, we retold it as a whole class, adding in more detail and interesting vocabulary.
