If you are shopping in any South Shields Tesco stores please help our eco-committee raise funds for outdoor learning equipment.
This week in Year 6, we have been looking at forces and we discussed water and air-resistance and friction.
We have set up an investigation to find out if the surface area of a parachute affected air-resistance. Children had a fantastic time testing their parachutes.
Year 3 enjoyed a trip to Sunderland today to take part in a Live Tales workshop.
They discussed the essentials of storytelling, and learned that no idea is a bad idea when we are being creative!
They worked together to come up with a character, a sidekick, a setting and an introduction to the story before finishing it off independently. The children had such fantastic ideas and it was lovely to see them writing freely!
We are looking forward to receiving our stories in the post in the next few weeks.
We are thrilled to announce that with the help of our fabulous Eco-Warriors, we have been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag Award!
This is a prestigious award for the school and a big achievement for our Eco-Warriors. We have already made lots of positive changes within school and have many more ideas.
Our children are keen to help improve our environment and in turn protect our precious planet!
We would also like to thank Nissan, Sunderland for the kind donation of litter picking equipment.
Year 5 had a visit from The Word today. They developed their coding skills on Scratch and made a game. They had to choose various sprites ‘characters’ and programmed them to move around. The children worked really hard and I think we have some future coders in the making!

Year 1 have been learning about fairy tales as part of our Dimensions topic, Happily Ever After.
We had a fabulous time hunting for the missing nursery rhymes at Seven Stories, Newcastle. The children were captivated by Lawrence’s storytelling and so enthusiastic to complete the challenge set by the Crooked Man!
Year 3 are thoroughly enjoying their new Dimensions topic ‘That’s All Folks!’. They have spent the last week learning about some early types of animation including flipbooks and zoetropes.
Today, they had a go at creating their own stop motion animations in small groups. They learnt that stop motion is a technique whereby a camera takes lots of pictures of an object, moving it slightly each time to give the appearance that it is moving.
They used classroom objects to create their stop motions and get acquainted with the app, as in a few weeks time they’ll be making their own stop motion films with plasticine!

Class 4 have been working hard at their Power Maths lessons; developing their skills of working independently. Well done Class 4!

As part of their new topic “Lightning Speed”, the Year 4 children have been learning about networks.
We went on a network hunt around the school to see how all of our devices are connected to the main server.
We then used drama to recreate a LAN (local area network) where children took on different roles in a network. The string represented the wires and cables. The laptop was not connected via wires because it is a wireless connection.
We simulated different tasks such as printing a document, opening a webpage and editing a document. Well done, Year 4!
