Year 4 visit to Durham Cathedral

15th July 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 4 had an amazing trip to Durham Cathedral!

As part of our topic, “Why do people visit Durham Cathedral today?”, we explored the history, art, and faith that make this place so special.

From stunning stained glass windows to peaceful prayer spaces, we discovered how the cathedral is not just a building – it’s a place of worship, learning, and community.

The children asked brilliant questions and showed great curiosity throughout.

A huge thank you to the cathedral staff and volunteers for helping the children with their project.

A Special Visit from Jaswinder Singh to Year 5

16th May 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Today, Year 5 had a fantastic visit from Jaswinder Singh from the North East Sikh Service!

As part of our current RE unit on Sikh commitment and belonging, we had a brilliant discussion all about Sikh beliefs, values, and practices. The children were fascinated to learn about how Life is a Lesson — and how we grow and learn throughout life, together.

Jaswinder even led a calming meditation session which the children absolutely loved!

Thank you so much for visiting and sharing your knowledge and kindness with us!

5th February 2025Fiona Goodwin

On Friday, our school was filled with the sights, smells and tastes of Chinese New Year as we enjoyed some amazing food to mark the occasion! It was wonderful to see the children exploring new flavours and learning about this vibrant celebration.

We also had a fantastic star of the week assembly, celebrating the hard work and achievements of our pupils – well done to all our stars!

Remembrance Day Service

14th November 2024Fiona Goodwin

Today our West Boldon Primary School community came together to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Our students took part in a special Remembrance Day service, observing a two-minute silence as a mark of respect. We are incredibly proud of how our children reflected on the significance of this day and showed their gratitude in such a thoughtful way. Lest we forget.

Enhancing the teaching of RE

20th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

We have been enhancing our RE teaching this half term through the use of stories. Some year groups have been lucky enough to have a very special visitor, Elizabeth, who came to lead a workshop with each class.

Reception have had a storyteller in to tell the story of the Three Trees for RE. This version of the folktale ‘Three Tall Trees’ sensitively introduces EYFS children to the Easter story, whilst also placing it in context with the story of Jesus. Incorporating actions and call and response, pupils were given the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the Easter story for Christians.

Year 3 have had the opportunity to go through the story of Palm Sunday with the storyteller to look at the entrance into Jerusalem from a disciples perspective. Whereas, Year 5 have discussed the events leading to and after the Last Supper.

KS1 and 2 visit to St. Nicholas Church

19th December 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Children from KS1 and KS2 took a wintry Christmas walk to St Nicholas’ Church this morning. Once there, the children sung some of their favourite Christmas songs in this beautiful environment and talked with Rev. Paul about how Christians celebrate Christmas.

Rev. Paul was very impressed with some of the questions relating to the church itself.

All of the children were so impeccably behaved and are a real credit to our school!

Thank you Rev Paul.
