This week Year 3 attended the Rugby Tournament organised by Boldon School. All 3 teams played incredibly well, showed great skill and sportsmanship, and we had teams place 4th, 2nd and 1st!
As part of year 5’s PSHE lesson today the children were given Scrabble tiles to make words. The main focus was to see who worked ‘collaboratively’. It was interesting to see who made their own and who worked as a team to make a Scrabble board. We discussed how to improve and work collaboratively and the children began to make group boards by using each other’s alphabet tiles.
The Year One children this term are following a topic theme called “Going Wild”. In art we have had to explore the technique of printing. We found a little out about Andy Warhol, especially his series of work called “endangered species”. We then explored animal patterns and tried sketching out some of our own. We picked our favourite pattern and then transferred it on to styrofoam to make our own printing tile. We finished our work by exploring how to use a brayer and printing ink to create our own printed patterns. The children had a lot of fun and were amazed at their creations.
Our star of the week assembly went on twice as long as usual this week as there has been so much amazing work and sporting events happening. Children received certificates for taking part in a rugby competition (we won!) and also some children received their pen license’s. Well done everyone!
For Arts Week we have been using the text ‘It’s Up to Us’ as a focus, each year group picking a different element of environmental issues to draw attention to with their artwork. Children in Year 3 sketched polar bears.
First, the sketched them out and coloured them, before painting a background using water colours. Finally, they will draw their polar bears again and cut them out to place on the watercolour background. We can’t wait to see the final results!
Class 3 took advantage of the lovely weather this afternoon. We took our art lesson outdoors, where we sketched different animal patterns as part of our ‘Going Wild’ topic.
We had a great ‘star of the week’ assembly on a Friday. Was so nice to hear about all the good work and fantastic attitudes that these children showed last week. Our year 3/4 quad kids competitors were also happy to receive their certificates.
Some of our year 3/4 pupils had a great day out on Friday at the South Tyneside Quad kids sports competition. The gave their all at Monkton Stadium and put in some amazing performances but unfortunately it wasn’t our day. Maybe next year!
Year 5 went to Boldon Comp to compete in the annual rugby tournament. They showed fantastic teamwork, resilience and confidence in their matches. We are so proud how they represented the school and themselves. Our teams came 1st and 2nd!
Well done everyone!
