Class 4 are learning how to represent nature in our artwork this term.

This week Year 3 have been working hard on their coding skills using Scratch. They learned how to delete a sprite, add a new sprite, change the backdrop and make the sprites move and change costume.
They thoroughly enjoyed this unit of work and applied their coding knowledge to create some beautiful moving rainforest animations linked to their current topics!
Here are some of the children hard at work. We were extra excited to complete this task as we were able to use some new touch screen laptops which were donated to us very kindly by ASDA.

This half term Year 4 are looking at ‘We Planted a Tree‘ by Diane Muldrow.
This book is written entirely in free verse poetry and is illustrated magnificently by Bob Staake. The story centres on two families who plant trees in very different locations. It helps the children to compare differences and similarities and look at the importance of trees to our planet.
We will be looking at the poetry in the book and comparing it to other types of poetry such as Kenning, Haiku, Tanka, Cinquain and rhyming couplet poetry. The children will have a chance to create poetry collaboratively, on their own and have a go performance poetry (which is always a favourite).
Look below to see a version of the book being read aloud.

Today Reception children and staff said farewell to our darling ducklings.
We were fascinated to watch them hatch from their eggs and learnt how to care for them. The children have helped to clean, feed, water and handle the ducklings. We have also loved playing with them and really enjoyed watching them swim!
All of the children have loved the experience and gained knowledge of how to care for animals. Now they have been re-homed with one of our lovely families

Last week as part of Year 5’s History topic on WW2, they visited Eden Camp in North Yorkshire.
The museum was once a prisoner of war camp and has since been converted to help educate people on the events that took place during WW2.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip and it allowed them the opportunity to consolidate their learning and experience what life was really like during this important time in British history.

Reception are looking at “The snail and the Whale”. We have been looking at the characters and using adjectives to describe them. We have looked at the rhyming patterns in the book and tried to think of our own rhyming words to fit the pattern. We also created speech and thought bubbles for the two main characters at different parts of the story.

For their final text, Year 2 are reading The Tin Forest by Helen Ward. The story centres around the middle of a windswept wasteland full of discarded scrap metal lives a sad and lonely old man. In spite of his gloomy surroundings, he dreams every night of a lively forest full of trees, birds, and animals. When he finds a broken light fixture that looks like a flower, his imagination is sparked.

This half term Year 3 are going to be reading Leon and the Place Between by Angela McAllister and Grahame Baker-Smith.
Wanting to prove to his brothers and sisters that magic really exists, Leon volunteers to be in Abdul Kazam’s magic show and gets transported to a mysterious world. Filled with rabbits, doves, playing cards and magician’s assistants – among other things – if a magician can make it disappear, it will end up in the Place Between.
The children are already so engaged in this story and can’t wait to read more in our literacy lessons over the coming weeks. Using this book as a focus, we will be working on writing diary entries, descriptions and upleveling our writing ready for Year 4!
