Building for a purpose

19th May 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
We have taken our block play to a new level this week! Rather than just building towers we have progressed to building with purpose.
The children have really been thinking about the blocks they use and the detail they can add through the use of enhancements.
This week we have built cotton candy shops, desks and ice cream trucks to name but a few.
The children have worked as a team, they have shared ideas and have had to learn to compromise as well. We plan on adding more enhancements to this area next week and support the children to further develop their planning skills.

Counting on

19th May 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
In Reception we have been looking at ‘counting on’ using a number track.
We decided to make the most of the nice weather and take our ‘counting on’ game outside. We used the number tiles and large dice to play.
We each got the chance to jump along the track a set number of times and tell our number story.
We are able to tell our number story in order using the STEM sentences ‘first….then….now’.

The Giving Project Update 18th May 2021

18th May 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

‘TO GIVE, TO HELP, TO BE KIND AND CREATE HAPPINESS’

Some of the children in year groups 3 to 6 have been involved with the ‘Giving Project’ to achieve the ‘Dance Together Award’.

To achieve the award the children volunteered to work together as a team, shared their ideas and helped each other to create a dance routine during their playtimes.
They were very proud to perform their fabulous dances for Mrs. Garr and other school staff.
They created a lot of happiness and enjoyment for everyone who was involved.

Would Red Riding Hood like to visit our school grounds?

18th May 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

In science Class 4’s topic is to find out if Red Riding Hood would like to visit our school grounds.

We know Red Riding Hood likes to spend time in the woods, so we went outside to investigate what kind of trees are around our school.

We were amazed by how tall some of the trees were and how big the crowns were. The boys were so excited to find some exposed roots.

We all looked very closely at the leaves and tried to match them to our identification sheet.

Class 3 go birdwatching!

18th May 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 3 had a lovely afternoon birdwatching today!

As part of our science lessons, we’ve been looking at the birds, plants and trees that Little Red Riding Hood might find in our school grounds.

Today we spotted a sparrow, some blackbirds, some magpies, a blue tit, and lots of seagulls and pigeons. We then recorded our findings and explained where we found each bird.

We had a great time exploring and observing.
