In Year 2 we are getting better with our mental arithmetic. Each week we do a test and our scores are improving and we are quicker at it too!

‘TO GIVE, TO HELP, TO BE KIND AND CREATE HAPPINESS’
Over the last few weeks some of the children in year groups 3 to 6 have been involved with the ‘Giving Project’ to achieve the ‘Dance Together Award’.

This half term in Year 3, the children have been working towards writing their own newspaper reports of the events of the volcanic eruption in Pompeii in 79AD.
Over the last few weeks they have been building up their skills, looking at structural features, the language used and planning and writing their own newspaper reports. Today they published their work using the Chromebooks.
Here are some examples of our amazing work!
Year 3 spent their last afternoon of the half term in the sunshine erupting their amazing paper-mache volcanoes!
In their groups they added 3-4 teaspoons of baking powder and some warm water and food colouring to make the eruption look like real lav. Then they poured in some vinegar until it fizzed and bubbled over the top of the volcano!

This morning Class 3 made the most of the sunshine and took our last Design & Technology lesson of this half term outside!
All term we have been looking at how to make a wheeled vehicle. We have researched axels, axel holders and wheels as well as how they work. We have designed our own vehicles and this week we worked in groups to bring our designs to life!
We spent a lovely lesson on the yard, painting our vehicles in beautiful bright colours ready for our very own Wacky Races this afternoon!
Year 3 enjoyed their final Gymnastics lesson with Mr Gilmore this week in P.E.
They had to complete an obstacle course using the soft equipment putting into practise the skills they have learnt over the course of the half term at each station including balancing, rolling and jumping.
After each run through, Mr Gilmore made it even trickier! Raising the level of the vault, adding in extra stations and even turning benches upside down!

Class 3 have been using lots of resources this week to help them solve their core maths worksheets! Using numicon to add and represent numbers has really helped us ace our addition and subtraction with two digit numbers!
Mr McCormack’s class were taking part in one of our Commando Joe sessions taking on the role of Ed Stafford and trying to find their way across the Amazon.
They used plenty of teamwork and ingenuity to achieve their mission goal. Well done everyone!
Classes 8 and 9 had an awesome time at Colliery Woods today. We were greeted by the woodland trust staff who showed us around the area.
We looked at lots of different plants and insects, while learning techniques to help us identify butterflies, bees, flowers and trees.
We found out so much about classification and pollination (our next science topic) so fingers crossed we will be able to remember and use what we learned today.
It was so nice to be able to take the children on a school trip and another step closer to normality.

Year 3 have been thoroughly enjoying their weekly gymnastics sessions with Mr Gilmore this half term. This week they took part in a mini competition. Everyone performed so well, but there could only be three on the podium!
