Painting penguins

20th January 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

As part of our Dimensions topic on the Arctic, class 3 have been painting penguins, building marshmallow igloos and even attempted some Inuit throat singing!

We have really enjoyed learning about Inuit people and how their loves differ from ours. We were particularly interested in their diet!

African Dance Workshop

13th January 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

KS2 children had a fantastic experience of an African dance workshop on Tuesday. It was a fun, engaging and memorable essential learning experience that allowed the children to have a broad understanding of cultural diversity.

The workshops were delivered by the fantastic Tunde Olasupo, who taught them some of the different traditional African dance moves native to this wonderfully vibrant and diverse culture.

Let’s Twist Again!

13th January 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

This term Class Four will be working in dance. Every Monday for the next six weeks, Miss Skiggs will be working with the class to teach dance steps and to combine the steps in to a routine.

This week she introduced our music – Let’s Twist Again, and allowed the children to respond in their own way. There was some fancy footwork!

Comparing addition and subtraction facts

13th January 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Some of the children in Class 4 were given a challenge in maths today to compare addition and subtraction facts. Although that was tricky – there was an added level of difficulty, in that the calculations had been completed and the children had to check they were correct and sort them in to true and false.

The children worked so hard to complete this multi step challenge and we’re even confident enough to explain their working out.
Simply amazing – well done everyone!

Christmas Maths Challenges

14th December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
Year 4 have been working in pairs to complete Christmas themed maths challenges.
They had to complete a series of problems such as ordering snowmen by height, finding how many possibilities there are for different outfits for a snowman and sharing buttons following different rules.
They had to work together and could choose how they wanted to solve the problem e.g. mentally, written methods, drawings or practical resources.

KS2 visit to St Nicholas’ Church

14th December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

KS2 (Year 3-6) enjoyed a wonderful walk to St Nicholas Church this morning.

Once there, each year group sang a Christmas carol they had been practising over the last few weeks. Rev. Paul also told the children all about Advent and chose a lucky Year 3 child to come and light the candles on the Advent wreath.

Rev. Paul was really impressed with the children’s knowledge of Advent already and after that the children asked him such insightful questions about the church.

At the end of the service Rev. Paul blessed us all with a lovely Christmas prayer.

All of the children were beautifully behaved and represented our school incredibly! Well done KS2!

Year 1’s Gymnastics Competition!

13th December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

It was Year 1’s final gymnastics session with Mr Gilmore this week. The children have been working hard to learn elements for a routine, today they performed their routine in a competition.

Mr Gilmore watched each child perform their routine and scored them just as if they’d been competing in the Olympics. He was very impressed at the standard the children performed at and wasn’t able to only pick a first, second and third place. We had joint places for silver and gold! Amazing!

All of the children have worked so hard in their gymnastics lessons and every single one of them have developed new skills.
