From Parliament to Playground: MP Kate Osborne Visits West Boldon

7th May 2025Fiona Goodwin

This Friday, we had the honour of welcoming our local MP, Kate Osborne, to school. She was so impressed with everything happening here at West Boldon – from the impact of our new Breakfast Club on children and families, to the exciting news of our new nursery funding.

The highlight of the day was the grand unveiling of our Reading Bus! Kate was our star guest and even climbed aboard to sit with members of our school council, who asked her some amazing questions about her life as an MP.

Our children were an absolute credit to the school and to you, their families – we couldn’t be prouder!

A Brilliant Start to Our Brand New Breakfast Club!

7th May 2025Fiona Goodwin

What a fantastic first week for our new Breakfast Club!

We’ve had nearly 50 children each day enjoying a calm, positive start to their school day. After a healthy, nutritious breakfast, they’ve loved playing board games indoors and making the most of the sunshine outside- building friendships and having fun!

No need to book – just turn up!

Breakfast club runs everyday from 8:00am to 8:25am via the main car park gate.

Come on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – or all week! It’s totally flexible, and there’s no limit to how many days you can attend.

We’re so please with how well its gone this week and know it’s a big help for our families. Thank you for your support!

Attendance Treat!

7th May 2025Fiona Goodwin

What a treat!

Our 100% Attendance and Most Improved Attendance winners had an amazing time at the cinema this morning – and they absolutely loved it!

We know that rewarding attendance can be a tricky topic – after all, children can’t help getting poorly sometimes. But we choose to celebrate great attendance to encourage good routines, resilience and making the most of learning every single day!

A huge well done to all of our winners – you’ve shown brilliant commitment and we’re so proud of you!

Fascinating Fossils in Year 1/2

7th May 2025Fiona Goodwin

Last week, we had an amazing visit from Ivan at the Education Group who came to talk to us all about fossils!

We explored a fantastic collection and learned how different types of fossils are formed – from imprints to preserved bones and even fossilised poo! The children were completely fascinated and asked so many brilliant questions.

But the highlight of the day had to be our special guest…Bella the Baby Dinosaur! She stomped into our classroom and completely stole the show. The excitement was off the scale!

A huge thank you to Ivan for such an engaging, hands-on session. It’s safe to say we have some future palaeontologists in the making!

Reading Bus – Boldon Roots!

7th May 2025Fiona Goodwin

We’re celebrating our Boldon roots!

Our Reading Bus has had in incredible makeover thanks to local graffiti artist Tyler Rutley, who’s transformed it with scenes from Boldon Colliery’s mining past. It’s a powerful tribute to our local heritage and a fantastic way for our children to connect with the history of their families and community.

“Focusing on the past is a key part of our curriculum. Many of our children’s parents and grandparents worked in the coal industry – this project gives them a real sense of pride in where they come from” – Linsey Garr, Head Teacher

“As a Boldon Colliery lad, I was proud to support this. It’s about giving something back and helping inspire the next generation to love reading and their heritage” – Tyler Rutley, Artist

We love it – and the children do too!

Year 6 Leaver’s Hoodies

7th May 2025Fiona Goodwin

Such a lovely moment today presenting our Year 6’s with their leavers hoodies! It’s hard to believe they’ve only got one term left before we wave them goodbye. Still lots of hard work and fun ahead, and we know they’ll continue to make us proud every step of the way!

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined” – Henry David Thoreau.

You’ve got this, Year 6! Let the countdown begin!

Year 3 Greek Day!

7th May 2025Fiona Goodwin

Year 3 wrapped up their Ancient Greek topic with an action packed day of fun and learning!

We kicked things off by sampling a delicious selection of Greek foods – pitta bread, feta cheese, tomatoes in olive oil, hummus, tzatziki, olives, grapes and even some sweet baklava!

After that, we learned all about the legacy of the Ancient Greek Olympics, before heading outside to take part in our own mini games. We competed in running races, long jump and discus – with the winners proudly receiving golden olive crowns just like the ancient Olympians!

To finish the day, we channelled our inner Greek warriors and built our own catapults! Miss Robinson got a bit of a surprise when she walked back in the room – let’s just say our aim was spot on!

What a brilliant way to end our topic – well done, Year 3!

Mother’s Day Celebrations

2nd April 2025Fiona Goodwin

On Monday, we wrapped up our final two Mother’s Day events, and what a special day it was!

Upper Key Stage 2 started the day with heartfelt performances, singing beautifully and sharing touching words about their love and appreciation for their mums.

Lower Key Stage 2 ended our celebrations with three stunning songs, followed by a delightful afternoon tea of scones and a good old cuppa!

We’ve been absolutely blown away by the incredible support from all our parents over the past two days. Thank you for making these events so special!

Wonderful Mother’s Day Stay and Play!

2nd April 2025Fiona Goodwin

We had an amazing time celebrating Mother’s Day with our Reception parents at our special Stay and Play session! It was heartwarming to see so many parents join us for a morning filled with fun, creativity and quality time with their little ones.

A huge highlight was hearing the children sing so beautifully – it was truly a special moment!

Thank you to all the parents who came along and made it such a fantastic event. Your support and involvement mean so much to us and, most importantly, to your children!

Fantastic Friday at West Boldon Primary!

2nd April 2025Fiona Goodwin

We kicked off the day with our Star of the Week celebration, celebrating all the children who met our Gold Standards! A special well done to one of our Year 6 boys who earned the Golden Coin for his amazing achievement in his weekly arithmetic test!

We then moved on to the start of our Mother’s Day assemblies for Key Stage 1. The children sang beautifully and spoke clearly, sharing just how much they love their wonderful mams. It was a truly special moment!

A big well done to everyone involved!
