This week, Year 3, Year 4 and Arc 2 had a great visit with Jenna from Sunderland Software City. She told us all about her career involving technology, the amazing opportunities she’s had and how we can get into a career in tech. Most importantly we learned that there are lots of technology jobs and opportunities right here in the North East. We then had the opportunity to try some of the VR headsets that she had brought with her!
Community Champions from Asda Boldon and Asda South Shields joined our Year 6 classes to talk about the range of jobs available within Asda stores, including roles in security, finance, HR, the shop floor, and marketing and buying. It was fascinating to hear about product placement within the stores and how companies vie for the prime spots to sell their goods. Other topics discussed included how early Christmas appears in stores, other seasonal decisions, and the fierce competition with other supermarket giants.
Class 6 learned about the different roles in the NHS. The children enjoyed dressing up and picked their favourite career to research. They learned about the different skills and subjects required to become qualified in that job.
It was so nice to welcome Sunshine Nursery to school today for some paired reading. The children loved being read to on our reading bus. It’s so nice to create these links with our feeder nursery’s.
16 children from year four took part in the South Tyneside Dance Festival at the Customs House on Thursday evening. There was a lot of nerves and excitement before we took to the stage, but even technical difficulties didn’t stop our little GaGa’s from taking the audience to the Edge of Glory! Well done Year Four, you were all absolutely fantastic, and did our school proud! A special mention must go to Miss Skiggs for putting so much time and effort into training the children, you are as amazing as the children.
We have had a lovely day with our ‘star’ of the week assembly celebrating all our stars as well as our fantastic Year 4 dancers who blew everyone away with their performance at the Custom’s House last night. It was also made even brighter by seeing so many children dressing up to celebrate diversity!

We love our French lessons in Class 10. As a short brain break Madame Smith thought us a playground game to sing and play.
Class 10 have been exploring angles and shapes in their geometry maths unit. They learnt about acute, right angles and obtuse angles. Then used this knowledge to learn about the different triangles. To consolidate their knowledge they completed some practical work sorting and ordering angles as well as using geo-boards to make a variety of triangles.
Year 3 had a brilliant day at the Theatre Royal Newcastle today!
We had the opportunity to see the parts of the theatre that the general public don’t get to see. We saw dressing rooms, music rooms, backstage, under the stage and on the stage! What a view!!
Then we tried out the seats in all the levels, learned about the ghost of lady grey and even had a seat in the royal box.
Then we had an acting master class with Rhian. She was amazing and got us excited about theatre and creating our own plays!
Some of us would love to work in the theatre in the future, whether on the stage, behind the scenes or one of the many hidden roles we learned about today!
What a busy day!
