Crossing the Tawi River

7th November 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 4 continued their journey through India this week, following in the footsteps of adventurer Levison Wood.

Having collected our supplies on previous missions, this week our aim was to cross the Tawi River during flood season.

The children had to get the whole team and their equipment across the hall without touching the floor (the floor represented the fast moving river).

They showed great teamwork and communication skills and some team members showed great leadership and problem solving skills.

Rocking their new topic!

7th November 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 4 started a new topic about rocks and fossils this week.

We found out about different types of rocks such as metamorphic and sedimentary, we looked at which rocks fall into these categories and then spent time examining and drawing different rocks in detail.

Here we are using our magnifying glasses to look closely at rocks to help us with drawing them. We also tested several rocks (both man made and natural) to see whether they were permeable or impermeable.

Year 1

Year 1 made some magic potions. First of all they found their own wands and then they gathered some disgusting potion ingredients from the allotment – eyeballs, wing of fly, teachers fingers and so many more.

Samba drumming in Class 7!

4th November 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 7 enjoyed their first drumming lesson of the year today with Mr Bird.

They found out that samba drumming originated in Brazil. They then learned names of all the Samba drums and percussion instruments (from left to right) agogo bells, tamborims, surdos, the repinique and the caixa.

Finally, Mr Bird split the class into two groups and the children had a go at repeating a rhythm altogether as a band on the samba drums.

Never Eat Shredded Wheat

4th November 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Class 4 started their new Dimensions topic today- Never Eat Shredded Wheat. A Geography based unit all about learning about maps and the UK. They started today by exploring compasses. They thought about what a compass was before having a look at some themselves. They worked with their classmates to discover how the compass works and finding which way was north, south, east and west.

To finish off they made their own compass by magnetising a needle before laying in some water. They were amazed to watch the needle turn and then settle to point to the north.
