Careers Week at West Boldon Primary

7th March 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

As part of Careers Week, we were thrilled to welcome the education team from Nissan into school today!

The children learned all about the enormous Nissan factory — including an amazing fact that really blew their minds… You could fit the Metrocentre inside the Nissan factory 20 times over!

We also discovered that the factory employs 6,000 people alongside 6,000 robots, and the children asked some brilliant questions about:
– How long it takes to assemble a car
– How many cars are made each day
– How many are produced in a year

After learning that 2,000 cars are made every day, the children put their maths skills to work, using mental maths to calculate how many cars the factory could produce in a year — fantastic problem-solving on show!

To finish the session, the children were set a design challenge to create a car of the future… thankfully using LEGO rather than real machinery!

A huge thank you to Robyn at the Nissan education team for an inspiring and eye-opening visit

Building Future Leaders in Year 6!

7th March 2026Miss K. Wilkinson

We had a very special guest in Year 6 today! Steve from the Job Centre dropped by to talk to our pupils about employability and the world of work.

While “employability” might sound like a big word for primary school, Steve was absolutely blown away by our students. As they worked through the session, it became clear that our Year 6s aren’t just learning these skills for the future—they are already using them every single day.

Identifying that our children possess these skills:
– Communication & Teamwork: Essential for every group project.
– Resilience & Calm Under Pressure: Showing grit when things get tough!
– Problem Solving: Finding creative solutions in and out of the classroom.
– Leadership & Support: Helping one another reach their goals.

From meeting tight deadlines to showing incredible enthusiasm, our pupils proved they have exactly what it takes to succeed in whatever path they choose.

A huge thank you to Steve for inspiring our children and helping them see the amazing value in the skills they already possess. We couldn’t be prouder of their maturity and insight!

Year 1/2 and the Nissan Enterprise Workshop

18th June 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Our young engineers got hands-on building their own LEGO cars, discovered fascinating facts about our local Nissan plant, and even let their imaginations run wild designing cars of the future!

The day was full of creativity, teamwork, and inspiring ideas — who knows, we might have some future car designers in the making!

A big thank you to Nissan for a brilliant and engaging workshop!

Shark-tastic Learning at West Boldon!

5th June 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

This week, our Afterschool LEGO League Club for Years 1, 2 & 4 at West Boldon Primary had a FIN-tastic opportunity to dive deep into the world of marine life!

We were thrilled to welcome Jillian Morris, the founder of @Sharks4Kids, for an exciting video call where our young ocean explorers learned all about sharks, their importance to the ecosystem, and how we can help protect our oceans.

The knowledge and inspiration from this session are now being brought to life in our LEGO League Submerged challenge—where our teams are designing builds based on what they’ve learned about ocean conservation.

Thank you, Sharks4Kids, for helping our children become ocean advocates—one LEGO brick at a time!

Year 5’s Exciting Visit to Nissan and the Future of Eco-Friendly Technology

16th May 2025Miss K. Wilkinson

Last week, our fantastic Year 5 classes embarked on an inspiring educational adventure to Nissan’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plant — and what an unforgettable day it was!

From the moment they arrived, pupils were immersed in the world of cutting-edge car design, robotics, and future technologies. They got a behind-the-scenes look at how vehicles are built, explored the technology behind electric cars, and discovered how automation and smart production methods are shaping the future of the automotive industry.

One of the most exciting parts of the visit was learning how Nissan is leading the way in creating eco-friendly vehicles and sustainable engineering practices. Our students were fascinated by the innovations driving greener transport and took part in thoughtful discussions about electric vehicles, climate change, and reducing carbon emissions – big topics for big thinkers!

The visit didn’t just enrich their understanding of STEM subjects – it also sparked meaningful conversations around green energy and the environment, inspiring many to think about future careers as engineers, designers, or environmental innovators.

A huge thank you to the amazing team at Nissan for the warm welcome and brilliantly organised experience. We’re incredibly proud of our Year 5s for representing West Boldon Primary School with such enthusiasm, curiosity, and outstanding behaviour throughout the day!

A Special Visit from the Royal Navy

5th February 2025Fiona Goodwin

Yesterday, our Year 5 and 6 children had an exciting visit from the members of the Royal Navy! They learned all about the incredible work the Navy does to protect our country and help others around the world.

During an engaging presentation, the children asked some fantastic questions including;

  • How does the Royal Navy help during natural disasters?
  • What training do you need to join the Navy?

After the talk, the children got hands-on in workshops, working as a team to create and test their own flares – designed to signal for help in an emergency.

The session was truly educational and inspiring, showing the children the importance of teamwork, resilience and problem-solving – just like in the Royal Navy!
