Essential Learning Experiences (ELEs)

Year 3 visit the Theatre Royal!

26th June 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 had a brilliant day at the Theatre Royal Newcastle today!

We had the opportunity to see the parts of the theatre that the general public don’t get to see. We saw dressing rooms, music rooms, backstage, under the stage and on the stage! What a view!!

Then we tried out the seats in all the levels, learned about the ghost of lady grey and even had a seat in the royal box.

Then we had an acting master class with Rhian. She was amazing and got us excited about theatre and creating our own plays!

Some of us would love to work in the theatre in the future, whether on the stage, behind the scenes or one of the many hidden roles we learned about today!

What a busy day!

As part of their learning in class the children learnt about the importance of signs and symbols to the Vikings, they incorporated some of these signs into their own models of Viking Longboats.

Enhancing the teaching of RE

20th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

We have been enhancing our RE teaching this half term through the use of stories. Some year groups have been lucky enough to have a very special visitor, Elizabeth, who came to lead a workshop with each class.

Reception have had a storyteller in to tell the story of the Three Trees for RE. This version of the folktale ‘Three Tall Trees’ sensitively introduces EYFS children to the Easter story, whilst also placing it in context with the story of Jesus. Incorporating actions and call and response, pupils were given the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the Easter story for Christians.

Year 3 have had the opportunity to go through the story of Palm Sunday with the storyteller to look at the entrance into Jerusalem from a disciples perspective. Whereas, Year 5 have discussed the events leading to and after the Last Supper.

Year 1/2 visit from OpenZone

20th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

On Tuesday, Year 1/2 had a very special visit from Mrs C from the OpenZone at The Word in South Shields.

She brought with her some amazing robots and the children programmed them to do lots of different things. They used iPads to control the Bluebots, navigating them to different areas of the hall using BeeBot mats, then they programmed some Spheros to make them move, change speed and direction, and even change colour!

They had a fantastic day! Thank you Mrs C!

Class 7 Trip to Live Tales!

16th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

We had a brilliant day out on Wednesday and Class 7 were amazing representatives of our school.

We walked to the metro took the metro (some of us had never been on a metro) and then walked to the old fire station in Sunderland. It’s been turned into a space for drama and theatre.

There we took part in some drama and story telling games and activities before settling down to create a new story. The children had so many awesome ideas and we put them all on a magic interactive wall! Hannah our coach, helped us choose ideas and we created two characters, a setting and the first part of our story.

She then asked us to finished the story! We all worked so hard to write our own endings and they were awesome! As a surprise, there was an illustrator working there and she created an image of our characters 🥰

What a brilliant day out!!
