Year 3’s trip to ISKCON Hindu Temple, Newcastle

27th June 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Today Year 3 went on their trip to the Hindu temple, which was lead by the lovely Kirtida.

We have learnt about Hinduism in the Autumn and now Summer term. Religious Education (RE) makes a major contribution to the education of our children here in West Boldon Primary. It helps pupils develop knowledge and understanding of religion and of the differing religions and non-religious beliefs represented in Great Britain today.

The children were able to show off their Hinduism knowledge so far, ask lots of questions and try on some Hindu clothing- sari, bangles, bindis and turbans. They learnt some dancing, musical instruments (Surbahar) and even how to play the Mridangam.

Year 1’s visit to the Great North Museum

10th May 2022Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 1 had a great time exploring at the Great North Museum. They learnt all about fossils and hunted for artefacts. This was a great start to our new topic on Mary Anning 🦕

They took part in a workshop where we were able to touch and explore real fossils. They were shocked when they were given some fossilised dinosaur poop to explore! The children’s knowledge and theorising were super impressive and Jo from the museum thought they were palaeontologists of the future.

KS2 visit to St Nicholas’ Church

14th December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

KS2 (Year 3-6) enjoyed a wonderful walk to St Nicholas Church this morning.

Once there, each year group sang a Christmas carol they had been practising over the last few weeks. Rev. Paul also told the children all about Advent and chose a lucky Year 3 child to come and light the candles on the Advent wreath.

Rev. Paul was really impressed with the children’s knowledge of Advent already and after that the children asked him such insightful questions about the church.

At the end of the service Rev. Paul blessed us all with a lovely Christmas prayer.

All of the children were beautifully behaved and represented our school incredibly! Well done KS2!

KS1 visit to St Nicholas’ Church

13th December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

This morning, Year 1 and Year 2 (Key Stage 1) took a wintry Christmas walk to St Nicholas’ Church. Once there, the children sung some of their favourite Christmas carols in this beautiful environment and talked with Reverend Paul about how Christians celebrate Christmas.

Reverend Paul was very impressed with some of the questions relating to the church itself.

All of the children were so impeccably behaved and are a real credit to our school!

Year 5 trip to the Life Centre

10th December 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

This week Year 5 visited the Centre for Life in Newcastle. They took part in a variety of STEM workshops and activities which tied into their ‘Mission Control’ topic in Dimensions.

The children conducted experiments using robotic arms, freeze dried fruits and astronaut clothing. The Life Centre Staff also pointed out the Mars Rover which featured in their Literacy work earlier in the year.

Later in the day they visited a science light show and the planetarium where they learned about space, space flight and our earth.

Year 3 trip to OpenZone @ The Word

30th November 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 travelled to The Word today to visit the staff at OpenZone. They learned the basics of coding using Scratch and made a little Christmas animation. They also used paint to create a Christmas drawing which was then made into their own individual tree decoration.

They were an absolute credit to the school. It was commented upon several times how well mannered they all were and how well behaved. They also produced some AMAZING work. Well done Year 3 😊
