More exciting times at West Boldon Primary… we bought a mini bus!
This will enable us to take children on far more trips and also keep the costs of these down for parents. We are also going to use it to pick up some of our taxied in children and this will reduce congestion on the streets around school.
We absolutely loved all the entries in this year’s Easter egg competition.
The children enjoyed coming into the hall and Mandy and Christine had fun picking out the winners!
We will be announcing the winners and giving them their prizes in assembly tomorrow.
On Tuesday, Year 1/2 had a very special visit from Mrs C from the OpenZone at The Word in South Shields.
She brought with her some amazing robots and the children programmed them to do lots of different things. They used iPads to control the Bluebots, navigating them to different areas of the hall using BeeBot mats, then they programmed some Spheros to make them move, change speed and direction, and even change colour!
They had a fantastic day! Thank you Mrs C!
We love reading at West Boldon Primary so we especially love world book day! The children (and staff) looked fabulous in their outfits and had a lovely day after Miss Ingoe’s class lead an assembly based on reading. We can’t wait for next year.
Year 1/2 had the most wonderful, fun-filled day at Beamish today.
As part of their Royal Patrons topic they visited the 1950s town where they took part in a toys workshop and had the chance to play with lots of toys from that era.
They also enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch before a little visit to the old school, where they had a go at using slates to write followed by a quick play of hoop rolling on the yard!
They were also very lucky to be able to ride the tram!
What a fab morning!
We have had our very own launch event which introduced the children to Rocksteady workshops that will be held in school. Today gave the children a chance to try out the instruments and learn all about being a musician in a band!
Rocksteady is an incredible opportunity for the children to learn to play their favourite songs in their very own band with a choice of drums, keyboards, electric guitar, bass guitar or vocals. Lessons will take place every week during school time.
As well learning new musical skills, lessons also help the children with their confidence, wellbeing, social skills and teamwork. These fun and inclusive lessons are taught by highly trained, professional musicians who know how to inspire a life-long love of music.
At the end of each term each band will perform a concert for the school and their families, so you can see how far they have come!
Our school council loved their morning trip to Newcastle and Pizza Express to make their own pizza margarita as a reward for all their hard work. They were a credit to the school as always.
Today Year 1/2 were visited by some staff at Nissan. They showed them all the different kinds of cars they make at the factory.
The children then had a go at designing their own car before creating some with Lego. The best car design and best Lego creations all received a Nissan lunchbox as a prize!
We definitely have some future car designers in Key Stage 1!
KS1 have had a lovely afternoon visiting St Nicholas Church and talking to Reverend Paul. Rev. Paul told them all about how they recognise Advent in church and they even sang some Christmas songs. The children listened so well, sang beautifully, and asked lots of insightful questions!
