Year One have been back in The Secret Garden this week. We made a hedgehog village out of bricks and wood and we each made a clay hedgehog to take home for our own garden. We then picked some sunflower seeds out of one of our dead sunflowers, we will replant them next Spring. We also loved using the power drill to make a hanging bug hotel.
Year 1 are following a scheme called ‘squiggle while you wiggle’ which helps children develop their gross and fine motor skills. Here they are practicing their up, down, side and cross over movements.

On Tuesday 21st September, all children from Years 1-6 came to school in their sports clothes to recognise National Fitness Day. We were especially lucky to have an excellent personal trainer volunteer their time to come in and compete a short session with every year group.
During their PT session, the children had to rotate around 4 different exercise stations around the hall where they had to complete different exercises such as star jumps, sit ups, ladder runs and hurdles – all activities designed to get the blood pumping!
Take a look at the fun we had!

As part of Year 1’s topic ‘Happily Ever After’ they invited Chris Bostock in to tell the children some tales. They all had a fantastic time listening to and joining in with the stories. The children loved the visit so much that the Explorers and Pathfinders 5 & 6 joined in the fun too.

Year 1 have been making bird feeders as part of following instructions and getting ready to think of our own instructions. They then took the bird feeders down to the Secret Garden for their feathered friends!
Year 1 really enjoyed their first Commando Joe lesson of the year. This week the children had to transport the “apples” across the bridge to Little Red Riding Hoods grandmas basket. The children huddled up to share ideas with their team and showed super team work and resilience. 🍎
