Curriculum Launch Day!

26th August 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

26.08.21

Dear Parents/Carers,

In September, we are excited as a school to be starting a brand new Curriculum called ‘Learning Means The World’.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

On Monday 13th September we will be having a Launch Day and to celebrate this, your child can come into school dressed just like an explorer, or path finder, or adventurer or navigator!

This could be something as simple as them wearing their own clothes with a pair of binoculars/magnifying glass/ map to accessorise or they could even wear a exploration costume. Whatever works for you, you choose!

‘Learning Means the World’ is a curriculum that promotes independence, creativity and curiosity to help our pupils become collaborators, innovators and leaders.
At the heart of our curriculum are four core themes known as ‘The 4Cs.’

Our curriculum aims to give our children the knowledge, skills and experiences to equip them to become happy, confident and capable in an ever-changing world. They will learn about places, people and events through hands on, fun and engaging learning opportunities; Whilst developing confidence, resilience and collaborative skills.

It’s going to be exciting!

Thank you
Miss Swales

Return to School Arrangements (Sept 2021)

25th August 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

25.08.21

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year has been a challenging one for everyone but I would like to say a massive thank you for your ongoing support and understanding throughout. We are excited to welcome the children back in September and looking forward to the coming school year.

I thought it important to write to you all to outline some of the things we will be planning to do in September. We are hoping to return to a near normal school day with some tweaks to what is expected and what we do in school.

Start and finish times

Due to government advice and the potential reintroduction of bubbles and staggered start times we have decided to continue with staggered entrance times to help keep us all safe.

RECEPTION PARENTS – please stick to your staggered start times for the first week

Siblings can arrive at the earliest start time and go to their class through the main entrance.

All children finish at 3.15pm and should be collected from their classroom yard exits. All 3 gates will be opened from 3.10pm (please don’t arrive early to avoid congregation) on entering the school to collect your child use the same gate that you used for morning drop off. If you have more than one child to collect, please collect the youngest child first.

Uniform

We will be expecting full school uniform from September but we have changed our uniform policy to make it more accessible, more affordable and comfortable for the children (please see the school website for details).

Children have to be in school uniform every day and are no longer coming into school wearing PE kits. They should have a PE kit in school.

School shoes can remain as trainers but they need to be plain black with no fancy designs or logo’s (a Nike tick or similar is acceptable), this is easier for children at playtime and taking part in the daily mile.

Other Key Information

Breakfast club will start on Wednesday 8th September at 8am. Breakfast club will now be in the hall so please make sure children come to the main entrance. Parent pay will need to be booked through the parent pay website.

After school clubs will be up and running in week 2 a list of clubs available will be sent out to you soon.

Hand hygiene

We will continue to ask children to wash hands regularly and will continue to provide hand sanitizer; the children and staff have got into good habits so we want this to continue through the winter months to reduce the risk of any viruses spreading.

Face coverings

Staff and adults, including family members are not required to wear a face mask on site.

I hope this clarifies the arrangements for September. If you have any questions, please get in touch

Enjoy the rest of the summer break and we will see you all very soon.

Thank you

Linsey Garr

Year 3 Rockpooling

15th July 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 enjoyed a fabulous day at Sandhaven Beach today. They spent some time playing on the beach, they enjoyed an ice cream, then they had an exciting rock pooling session offered by South Shields Surf School. To finish off the day they made some fantastic sand sculptures of some of the creatures they saw on the rocks. The weather was absolutely beautiful too!

Sports Day 2021

8th July 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

This year, being a little bit different, we couldn’t gather in our key stages to compete in sports day. We did however, all take to the tracks to compete in our bubbles.

There were various games competed in house colours including balancing a bat on a ball, bean bag shuttle, and the sack race!

It was such good fun for all year groups – everyone had a tremendous time!

Have a look below at some short videos of each year group enjoying their turn on the tracks.

Rainforest animations using Scratch

22nd June 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

This week Year 3 have been working hard on their coding skills using Scratch. They learned how to delete a sprite, add a new sprite, change the backdrop and make the sprites move and change costume.

They thoroughly enjoyed this unit of work and applied their coding knowledge to create some beautiful moving rainforest animations linked to their current topics!

Here are some of the children hard at work. We were extra excited to complete this task as we were able to use some new touch screen laptops which were donated to us very kindly by ASDA.

Year 3 Summer 2 Focus text

14th June 2021Miss K. Wilkinson
Leon and the Place Between book cover

This half term Year 3 are going to be reading Leon and the Place Between by Angela McAllister and Grahame Baker-Smith.

Wanting to prove to his brothers and sisters that magic really exists, Leon volunteers to be in Abdul Kazam’s magic show and gets transported to a mysterious world. Filled with rabbits, doves, playing cards and magician’s assistants – among other things – if a magician can make it disappear, it will end up in the Place Between.

The children are already so engaged in this story and can’t wait to read more in our literacy lessons over the coming weeks. Using this book as a focus, we will be working on writing diary entries, descriptions and upleveling our writing ready for Year 4!

Watch the video below to hear the text from start to finish.

Vesuvius erupts!

28th May 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

This half term in Year 3, the children have been working towards writing their own newspaper reports of the events of the volcanic eruption in Pompeii in 79AD.

Over the last few weeks they have been building up their skills, looking at structural features, the language used and planning and writing their own newspaper reports. Today they published their work using the Chromebooks.

Here are some examples of our amazing work!

Erupting volcanoes!

28th May 2021Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 spent their last afternoon of the half term in the sunshine erupting their amazing paper-mache volcanoes!

In their groups they added 3-4 teaspoons of baking powder and some warm water and food colouring to make the eruption look like real lav. Then they poured in some vinegar until it fizzed and bubbled over the top of the volcano!
