Easter Egg Competition 2024

27th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

We absolutely loved all the entries in this year’s Easter egg competition.

The children enjoyed coming into the hall and Mandy and Christine had fun picking out the winners!

We will be announcing the winners and giving them their prizes in assembly tomorrow.

Enhancing the teaching of RE

20th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

We have been enhancing our RE teaching this half term through the use of stories. Some year groups have been lucky enough to have a very special visitor, Elizabeth, who came to lead a workshop with each class.

Reception have had a storyteller in to tell the story of the Three Trees for RE. This version of the folktale ‘Three Tall Trees’ sensitively introduces EYFS children to the Easter story, whilst also placing it in context with the story of Jesus. Incorporating actions and call and response, pupils were given the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the Easter story for Christians.

Year 3 have had the opportunity to go through the story of Palm Sunday with the storyteller to look at the entrance into Jerusalem from a disciples perspective. Whereas, Year 5 have discussed the events leading to and after the Last Supper.

Class 7 Trip to Live Tales!

16th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

We had a brilliant day out on Wednesday and Class 7 were amazing representatives of our school.

We walked to the metro took the metro (some of us had never been on a metro) and then walked to the old fire station in Sunderland. It’s been turned into a space for drama and theatre.

There we took part in some drama and story telling games and activities before settling down to create a new story. The children had so many awesome ideas and we put them all on a magic interactive wall! Hannah our coach, helped us choose ideas and we created two characters, a setting and the first part of our story.

She then asked us to finished the story! We all worked so hard to write our own endings and they were awesome! As a surprise, there was an illustrator working there and she created an image of our characters 🥰

What a brilliant day out!!

World Book Day 2024

7th March 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

We love reading at West Boldon Primary so we especially love world book day! The children (and staff) looked fabulous in their outfits and had a lovely day after Miss Ingoe’s class lead an assembly based on reading. We can’t wait for next year.

We will rock you!

28th February 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

What a fab morning!

We have had our very own launch event which introduced the children to Rocksteady workshops that will be held in school. Today gave the children a chance to try out the instruments and learn all about being a musician in a band!

Rocksteady is an incredible opportunity for the children to learn to play their favourite songs in their very own band with a choice of drums, keyboards, electric guitar, bass guitar or vocals. Lessons will take place every week during school time.

As well learning new musical skills, lessons also help the children with their confidence, wellbeing, social skills and teamwork. These fun and inclusive lessons are taught by highly trained, professional musicians who know how to inspire a life-long love of music.

At the end of each term each band will perform a concert for the school and their families, so you can see how far they have come!

6th February 2024Miss K. Wilkinson

Our school council loved their morning trip to Newcastle and Pizza Express to make their own pizza margarita as a reward for all their hard work. They were a credit to the school as always.

PRIDE!

30th June 2023Miss K. Wilkinson

On Rainbow Friday Year 3 discussed the meaning of pride. They thought about times where they have felt proud of themselves or others, and thought about why pride is important to LGBTQ+ people. They also learnt about some of the origins of the rainbow flag, including what each colour represents, before creating their own progress flags out of collage materials.

Year 3’s visit from Zoolab!

29th June 2023Miss K. Wilkinson

Year 3 enjoyed a fabulous afternoon today. Rob from ZooLab came to visit us as part of our rainforests topic to show us different animals that call the rainforest their home. We began by meeting some animals who live on the forest floor, before moving up through the layers all the way up to the emergent layer. Some animals we handled included a millipede, a giant land snail, a snake, and a cockroach.

The children were so brave, some giving the animals a stroke, some holding the animals, and some just having a good look! They listened very intently to what Rob had to say, and asked some really interesting questions. Zoolab really brought our rainforests topic to life!

27th June 2023Miss K. Wilkinson

Keep Fit Club had great fun this week as Miss Ingoe brought in a giant parachute!

We worked as a team to lift the parachute in time, creating a mushroom and played games like cat and mouse and shark attack! There was a lot of laughter 😂
